Quick question regarding "failed" MOTs in the context of looking to buy a bike that has recently failed its MOT on a short list of minor items.

Is it possible to see exactly what the list of advisories were and also what the bike failed on (i.e. the whole MOT report) on the site that displays MOTs online (i'm aware i'd probably need the number on the V5 or whatever, but assuming the seller is genuine i'd doubt they'd mind - i'm thinking it's certainly wise to "see it for myself" rather than trust the seller to have not ripped off the sheet behind that lists the large number of expensive advisories that conveniently slipped their mind at the time of sale Wink)

Also regarding MOTs - do they usually give a good picture of the bike's condition because the list of items checked is very big (it's quite a comprehensive check, no?)

it will show on the mot sheet if there was a adverizery noted at the time of the mot but for checkin online there isnt anything u can check mate

It does actually say it will give you "full test information" - just that with no examples to see i was looking for confirmation it actually means "full" information from someone who's used it!

It does list all of the advisories but only the detail added my the MOT'er.

It will also let you look at the history of all the electronic MOTs, so roughly since 2005.

No, not really. There's plenty it misses out and the majority of the checks you could pretty much do in five minutes looking over a bike (ie not get accurate figures regarding braking and headlight position.)
Also, some MOT testers are laxer than others, while others may pass one for a friend.
