How do I go about set up an online store then? (not ebay) Is there a template or something?

Best way is to get a cart script e.g https://www.cubecart.com/
You will notice you have to pay after the trail, but if your clever you can get the script for free Thumbs Up

Buy domain & hosting if you havent already.

Upload script files to hosting in public_html or directory.

Set up mysql database etc.

Get a payment processor e.g;
Paypal - wouldnt actually recomend as they hate me and keep limiting my accounts . Twisted Evil

Worldpay
etc.

Add products make look good.
Advertise on forums etc.

What is your budget for setting up the website

and

Whether you know anything about mysql, php, html and general web design.

If your budget is low and you have no idea about anything then I recommend Weycrest hosting for a cheap domain and hosting package. Comes with loads of stuff you can install easily like cubecart.

If you have a low budget but know a bit about php and mysql, OSCommerce is fantastic. Infinately customiseable. The main template is pretty poor but can be changed entirely with a little know how.

Payment gateways are usually included in templates. I use paypal for simplicity and they accept credit/debit cards without registering or anything.
The bigger payment systems like world pay require merchant bank accounts and charge monthly fees whereas paypal is per transaction so if it is a small business then I say start with paypal but make it clear you accept cards aswell.

eBay is shit now tbh. Fees for a business seller are 8.75% I think + another fee which is just ridiculous. 10% for private sellers!!! eBay used to be good.
