Fuel starvation or loss of spark.

Is it running now?

When you say rebuilt... what was rebuilt exactly?

When you try and start it does the starter motor kick over? Does the engine catch then die or nothing at all?

You may have a problem with the main relay, located just below the seat on the RHS, under the panel. If you have a bad contact there, for example if it is badly corroded then it will cut all power - it's essentially the route of the electricity to the motor as a whole.

It's like turning off a switch - it just dies, immediately, no spluttering, nothing. You wont have a starter motor, or anything.

I would be inclined to whip off that panel and have a look at the relay - just trace the big red wire coming off the battery, the cotton reel shaped thing with the big 20A fuse in is the relay and may be the source of your trouble.

It happened to mine several times until I discovered the (fairly common) problem and clened up the corroded connections and dodgy wiring around the relay.

well its not the starter relay then. its the culprit on my GS and was stripped and cleaned last night and will be refitted tonight.

you need to check simple things. are you getting a spark at both plugs? are you getting fuel to both cylinders? are you getting compression?

without either one of these you wont have a running bike.
