So lately ive noticed my heartbeat seems to go a bit mental at the slightest bit of excercise. Actually, running up the stairs once results in my heart trying to escape my chest Embarassed
I dont think im particulary 'unfit', I have a relatively active job, play football once a week and I workout about 3 times a week (no cardio though)
I reckon I need to start doing some running or cycling or something as I seem to be getting out of puff way too easy these days.

The whole heart pounding thing got me curious so I measured my heart rate while sat chillin on the sofa.

Then ran up the stairs and immediately measured it again.

At rest I do about 66bpm. Run up my stairs and it nearly doubles to around 120. Is this a bad thing??

What do you BCfers come in at, post your results! Thumbs Up

Fitness is not about how fast your heart rate increases or how high it goes, it is about how quickly it returns back down again/you recover!! Wink

I get tired quickly, but recover very quickly too. I have a low resting heart rate, which rises quickly but blood pressure is low.

I seem to have the circulatory system of a two stroke.

Exactly. When dunning full speed my heart rate is the same as a professional athletes, it probably rises up at the same rate too, but theirs will return to normal and they will feel fine whilst mine pounds away and i feel sick Laughing

I think mine returns to normal from maximum in about 2 minutes, which is pretty crap. A fit person's would return in as little as 45 seconds.

I seem to remember that one professional cyclist had a resting pulse so low that they were worried about his blood congealing when he was asleep and made him go to bed with a heart monitor on Laughing

you have to take respiratory conditions and lifestyle (smoking) habits in to account also

Before my serious accident my resting rate was about 54bpm.

No idea what it is now!

Nothing on Lance Armstrong's 30bpm resting or whatever. Laughing.

That's probably because he was taking drugs (probably EPO) which has lead to heart failure, leading to death, in quite a few young pro cyclists in the last 20 years or so.

Yes im more concerned about the fact my heart trys to beat its way out after a 3 second burst of excercise Laughing
Im not a smoker and just do strength training in the gym. Takes about 90secs-2mins to return to normal. I suppose an hour of football once a week aint gonna make much difference.
Im not fancying running or cycling as my knees are fooked so causes more harm than good. Looks like swimming is my only option to get in shape Thinking

How much do you weigh in at and what is your height?

I'm 15stone of pure brute force and manliness (flubber) and I can raise my heart rate getting out of bed and going for a slash next door ... but I also have an exceptional recovery rate and endurance, so not bov-ered!! Cool

I'm 14 stone of 6' 6" of no meat, no fat..... I can only guess the 14 stone is mainly bone mass.

Humm, so it is not like you have a lot of bulk to move about ... clearly the heaver you are, the more energy it takes to move about ..

I suggest you get your blood pressure checked as you shouldn't get a 'throbbing' heart feeling ... can you feel it pulsing in your head?

I would get your blood pressure checked ... a person can seem otherwise healthy and have high blood pressure ...

Resting Heart rate of ermm 81 Embarassed

Smoked a stupid amount of tabs and drugs for a few years, have been smoke free for about a year. Overweight a smidgen and not the most physical person. Have lost a stone though since christmas. Bit worried about this heart rate though.

Yeah I'd also recommend getting it checked mate, if even just for piece of mind!

With things like this, you really can get yourself worried sh*tless over something you need not worry about though.

I'm a cyclist and I do a minimum of 90 and a maximum of 150 miles a week commuting and sometimes a long ride on the weekend if I fancy a bit of an outing Laughing

I can recover from a sprint in a few minutes no worries, and my resting pulse is ~57bpm (taken just now Razz)

In short fella, get it looked at and see where it goes from there, if Mr Doctor says you're fine then discard it and carry on with your football once a week or whatever! Nothing to stop you taking up swimming anyway though Wink

Hope this helps but probably won't as it's all been said above! Laughing

EDIT: Also, not sure if it's worth a mention, but I don't smoke, rarely drink if I'm honest, and generally eat healthily etc etc.

ANOTHER EDIT: Also! I'm 5' 11'' ish and was 10 stone when last checked but that was a while ago!

Steve.

get im 5'7'' / 5'8'' and about 9 stone

most unfit eva.

Haha I think i'm safe then. I would rather be fat with an 80 than skinny with an 80 lol.

Just measured mine and it's 52BPM.

Do a lot of exercise, run 3 times a week and do weights/circuit training 3 times a week. Then usually play footy/american football/basketball on the weekend, also eat a strict diet!

I'm 19, 5ft11 and about 11.8 Stone.

Thumbs Up
