.....PC Upgrades.
Been having some problems with my video editing and DAW software, basically it was shutting down my PC whenever i tried to render video files and the occasional larger WAV/MP3.
So today i went from 2Gb of DDR2 (4 x 512Mb) up to 8Gb of RAM (4 x 2GB).
Obviously, with x86 versions of windows not recognising 4Gb+, i decided it was time to go up to x64.
Fitted a new HDD too as my 250Gb was running out of space and i was having to scatter everything over various external drives. So i chucked in a 1TB Barracuda.
Installing Win7 Ultimate x64 was an absolute breeze, and by far the easiest and fastest install i've ever done - i installed it from a 4Gb USB stick, and it probably took around 15 minutes tops.
All in all, i spent about £170 - Ram was about £100, HDD about £60, plus an extra tenner for Saturday delivery.
I am a happy chappy! ____________________ Space Monkey #7

Sounds good. Does video encoding use multiple cpu's these days? So many things i've found don't at all, which is a pain when like me you have a shit load of slow cores (6x 3ghz) and things run the same speed as on a single 3ghz |

No, it seems mostly Ram hungry, it hardly touches my CPU. I only went x64 for the greater Ram capacity. ____________________ Space Monkey #7
