PostPosted: 13:33 - 01 Sep 2010    Post subject: Where do I mount my camera Reply with quote

I've got one of those MD80 cameras on order (£20) but I don't know where I should mount it when it comes.

Had some advice regarding putting on the mudguard using blu-tac and ducking tape, but I'd like it to fit neat. I have a CBR RR-5 so I was thinking of sticking it under the fairing just down from the lights but I'd have to stick it up so gravity would play some part in moving it. I've heard that the 3M Dual Lock stuff is good but is it good enough to stop the camera falling off under vibration pressure?

Any ideas

I found inside the helmet was best. If you have a soldering iron and some lego or similar, you could knock up a bracket for it to mount to in no time at all. I'll attach a photo shortly of what I done.

Well, if I was going to mount a camera, I guess I'd mount it from behind...

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

So you can sit the camera anyway you want and the picture will be upright all times?

I mean can you lay the camera horizontal does this mean it'll stick the footage on the side or will it just be widescreen.

A bit like a camera works. If you spin it the picture become widescreen, ya get me?

This isn't the case with these cameras but you can simply rotate the videos using windows movie maker if you do position it upside down or horizontally.

Got one of these coming too (£12.99 free p+p uk seller) I'm going to just try and shove it in my helmet in front of my nose if I can. Failing that i'll use black gaffa tape and stick it to the chin bar.

Thats a really good idea of where to put the camera too, this kit i've linked comes with velcro so i think that might hold it in place without having to manufacture a bracket for it Very Happy

Don't bother using the mounting bracket and cross tie it on one of your mirror stalks using cable ties with a some dense foam backing.

Putting it in your helmet will only give you ground footage unless you keep sitting up straight Confused

I made a little tube to slip mine down into, with a cut-out on the back so that the teeth on clip went into the hole and held the camera in.

Then mounted that on a strip of perforated metal bent to fit around my indicator stalk and hold the whole lot upright. So your picture is straight ahead and lowish, banks with the bike.

Would like to fit it to my helmet sometime but never got around to it.

Mine has just arrived. Pretty good thus far impressed with the picture going to spend tomorrow playing with mounting it and filming on my bike.

£12.99 well spent I think.

Link for those of you who wanted it: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180545809595

Took 2 days to arrive after they posted it.

Does not come with an mini-SD card so I shoved one I had hanging around in it.

Oh and the instructions are pure comedy Smile

"Gigantic data cannot be transmitted synchronously"

"Use slim pole to press button for the reset of purposes"

"Please pay attention to protect environment, not to throw the product optionally"

It's also helped by mentioning orange, yellow, red and green lights... I have only 3 lights. 2 are blue 1 is red. Very Happy

Instructions bud, are on the disk as a word document. Camera will not work without a memory card.

To record press the top button once when turned on, red light will flash. To pause press again, red light will start to flash a bit faster then to stop press top button and hold or just switch off.

Mode button is for operation with PC/Lappy, and I think to enable the sound activation you turn power on then press mode quickly.

Picture isn't brilliant but enough for what you pay.

Embarassed There was me looking for an actual paper copy lol!

Any ideas on memory card? I've seen a 4gb one on amazon, its only class 2 though. Does it HAVE to be class 6? If not, would class 2 be good enough?

Thanks Thumbs Up

I have a 2gb one no idea what class but seems to work okay. Providing it's cheap i'd try the class 2.
