Formatted and reinstalled windows yesterday. In my infinite wisdom I managed to format the wrong drive that I'd backed everything up to Laughing

Little bit gutted as I lost 50gb of music, about 100 films and photos from the first two weeks my daughter was born (rest are on my phone).

Cue cool story bro pics xx

You can still recover your data after a format. Use a recovery program on it before you put anything else on the drive.

The more you use the drive the less chance of a good recovery you'll have.

If it is just a back up you should be able to back it up from the original again. . . . . Or am I missing something? Confused

I'll guess he meant moved rather than copied as used when normally making a 'backup'. I tend to move stuff over when formatting so that I know it's all been done because it's no longer on the original drive, copy and you have to double check it's all been done.

Recovering software should theoretically get absolutely all of it back as a format only removed the file structure so the disk appears blank, the data all just left there intact unless you low level format (unlikely unless it took hours and hours to do).

On a related note, as I have also just backed my music and pictures up (succesfully I might add Mr. Green ) there's loads of automatic back-up software out there too. As long as you don't then format said drive then it makes life a lot easier, especially if your main drive dies without warning.

Cheers
