Hi guys, basically got lots of grease/oil over the plastics/metal of my bike.

What's the best and safest stuff to use to remove it? Scrubbing with washing up liquid and a sponge doesnt get rid of the oil, just smears it.

Cheers.

Muc off cleaner seems to work well for me, pink stuff in a liquid spray bottle. I'm not an expert on cleaning bikes though Laughing

WD40 works for plastics, but will eat chrome.
Found that GT85 brings them up better than that, and doesn't eat chrome Smile

Use an old spray bottle, (hand pump type) and go to halfords, buy a litre of degreaser, and fill up spray bottle.

This is alot cheaper than aerosol cans!

I find that if i`ve got that nasty, hard, dirt, greasy, sticky, muck to get of my bike, I use turps.

I find that if you paint on some clean, fresh turps onto that sort of muck, it will soften it, making it easier to get off without making any damage.
I have also found that turps appears to do no harm to seals and or rubber.

Works for me and it`s cheaper than special sprays Smile

appreciate it! got some of that in the shed, cheers.

My old man keeps harping on about white spirit for cleaning the grease off plastics, so might give it a quick go with the stuff in the shed before I buy anything.

Thanks dudes.

WD40 doesn't eat chrome.

WD40 themselves say it gives chrome a good shine. Not eating involved. Thumbs Up

FFS, now everyone knows! Very Happy

I thought it was just me,

I'm going to experimemt with some "kitchen" degreaser, it's even cheaper, plus you get a larger spray bottle as a bonus, oh and a, wonderful, lemon fragrance! Cool

I use Autoglym motorcycle degreaser. Unlike other degreasers it doesn't dissolve plastics.

Muc off is WEAK!

Castrol Greentec dissolves dirt and grime from almost anything and all it requires is just a rise off.

I use Alloy Wheel Cleaner from Home Bargains/The Pound Shop. Comes in a black spray bottle and works a treat.

I apply it with a paraffin gun then blast with a jetwash! You're right it's hard on your skin, need to wear gloves or work fast Smile

I've sprayed it on black plastics (such as the chain guard) but I wouldn't use it on painted plastic, there's just no need.
