Hi guys.

CBR600F on ebay. It says it's a 1993, but after some googleing it appears to be the older shape one, so I am guessing it's a late registered 1992 model.

What are these like?

Back wheel looks kind of small in the picture, does it use 17" wheels?
Usual bullet proof Honda-ness?

Anything else I need to know, before I go and see it.

Can't find a huge amount of info on Google for this shape.

Thanks

In fact, what would be even better would be if somebody could identify the year of this bike for me so I can look for the correct reviews and information:

They are reliable bikes, but at 17-18 years old even reliable bikes can have a huge list of problems. Provided it's cheap enough and looks in decent nick, i'd go for it.

The merkins call it the CBR600F2, 1991-1994.

Most info will be on yank sites so search for the F2 to get a review.

That picture you posted is that same era of 1991-1994. That’s from when the CBR6 was undisputed king of the 600s. Awesome bikes. The shape of the side fairing and inspection panel changed for 1995, so that one you pictured is before that.

I’ve got a 1994 CBR600FR and covered loads of miles with minimal problems.

The headers will have long since rotted away, so probably already been replaced. Carb inlet rubbers harden and perish. I had the seals let go in the oil cooler forcing oil into the coolant. The electrics are typical Honda in that the reg/recs can overheat and die. If you do lots of hot, slow urban commuting the insulation breaks down on the stator and you get charging problems.

I've got a '95, think it is an F2 or F3.

Headstock bearings can be a problem, really you want stainless downpipes cos they go like cheese.

The the usual possibilities of crash damage, chain and sprockets, tight gearbox etc.

its a honda so rattle on startup indicates CCT problems (not a big deal, quick fix but you can get some cash knocked off for it) and check to make sure the reg/rec is working.. i.e. lights dont change brightness too much when revving etc.. and it starts strongly

and as above.. check for crash dmg etc.. its a well built bike so if its been looked after you've got nothing to worry about.

great little things Smile

Did they come with clip ons as standard?

The ad says it has clip ons fitted, can't really tell from the pictures.

Clip ons + end can = chance that it was a track bike Question

Or am I being paranoid about using my money Laughing

All sportsbikes wear clip ons...? As long as it doesn't say "Renthal clip ons" or something then it'll be fine.

My ZZR didn't.

Only questioning it since it says it in the extras bit.

Ah well, just waiting on a reply from the guy and then I'll go check it out.

Thanks for all the info Thumbs Up

I have the same model of bike, which I use everyday, but is 1992 registered, with 44k miles.

Starts and runs perfect, just needed a little tightening. Just ordered a new CamChain Tensioner for it, and it just needed new tyres.

Mine had charging problems, but wasn't the Regulator, it was brittle 18 year old wiring. Check the connectors, I've had to replace the headlight one, and also had to rewire the connections between alternator and R/R infront of the battery.

Other than that, mine has had no problems at all, and is a great bike to ride, they do have clip ons as standard, but are clipped on ABOVE the top yoke not below.

I thought about getting a manual one, but may cause more harm than good in the long run.

At higher mileages, if it's rattling, even with a good hydraulic tensioner, there may be other issues, such as a stretched cam chain, and bad guides.

Using a manual one, may make the noise go away, until the chain finally gives way. If it still rattles after a new tensioner (Which is cheaper than the manual one too), then inspect the condition of the camchain and guides, as they can all be changed with the engine still in the frame.

100% the CBR600F came with clip ons, but mounted above the yoke not below.

Download the Honda service manual and have a look Wink

Looking at images on the 'net, all of the ZZR600 ones I can find (which aren't american ZX6R's) have clip on handlebars.

Basically, if its not one long bar that is clamped to the yoke, then they are clip ons.

They aren't too different to what you see on a ZZR, its just on a lot of bikes they go below the yoke, whilst on the ZZR they go on top of the yoke and perhaps have some rise in them too.

When the ad says 'clip on handlebars' I'd expect that to be a standard thing...
