I want a supermoto but I'm short!

Hey guys,

I'm 5'5" with a 30" inside leg (well jean size 30" leg anyway) and I fancy a supermoto type thing which I can mess about on locally. So do I have a chance of reaching the floor on anything? I know KTM's are pretty huge so looking for anything smaller.

I tend to wear the same size trousers and am absolutely fine - I've got 4 KTMs, including one with a higher seat.
Supermotos tend to be lower than the dirt bikes I've got too, with the smaller wheels an' all.

Someone i know has a Husaberg sm, not sure which one, but i think it maybe a 510?
Anyway, that one is pretty small, i was quite surprised just little it was actually!

I have no idea how it feels. I've always had very long legs. I can swing my leg over ANY bike and touch the floor. It's great.

My Derbi's pretty tall (850mm or something cant remember) and im pretty much on tip toes at 5'8'' (32'' inside leg), so I would think it might be a bit of a stretch for you.

I am only 5'7'' with an inside leg of 29'' so I can empathize with you, Daz. I bought a KLX 300 a couple of years ago and it was a hell of a challenge keeping the bike upright when stationary. After a short while you will develop your own method of remaining vertical. I did.

Not for all bikes though; majority of KTMs use 'PDS' which doesn't have linkages.

However, even then, various things you can do.
Ie, with the preload set up way too low on my 200EXC various short people were ok on it, setting it up properly for my weight and it was a lot higher.

a lot of supemotos squash down once your on it, due to the soft rear shock needed for long travel. so most of the problem is getting your leg over, oooo errrr. once on it, you may find your ok. try some out. if not then a rack maybe the only way round it.

I've an inside leg of 29", and can manage a DRZ400 ok, once I've got my leg over.

my ktm sm has a seat hight of 35 inches and my legs are only 31. i can put some toes down and a bum cheek off lol its all good and not had a problem with it, love it

there was an instructor that turned up on a SM when i was taking my test, he had to stop near a curb to get one foot down, must have been 5'3''. funny though. he didnt seem to mind.

i said what happens when you get to lights, he said he just finds something to put his leg on, car tyre, curb, his pupils bikes etc.

why he did just do the decent thing and get a dullsville for teaching on is beyond me.
