Hi guys.

Selling my ZZR on ebay, shameless link.

Within 10 minutes of putting it on ebay I had a message from a guy offering me a pretty decent amount for it. I have told him I will get back to him tomorrow.

He has 100% feedback over the last year and a bit (13 feedbacks altogether) including two bike purchases, I got him to send me an email to my email address rather than through ebay as I can't always get on ebay at work.

In this email he has offered me 10% via paypal and the rest as cash on collection which seems all right to me, however his email address is polish I think Confused it ends in @interia.pl

I have heard that there are a lot of Eastern Europeans buying bikes over here and shipping them back, so do I have nothing to worry about? His ebay account says he is based in the midlands and his written English is good so maybe I am being paranoid.

Advice please

Thanks

Conan

Paypal claim could get his money back (10% he sent you) tell him to give you a deposit of £50 via Paypal and get him to come down with the rest in cash in hand, inspect the money and write out a reciept for yourself and him (having each other sign both copies) all the best on the sale Wink

Just make sure the money you recieve is all correct and legit and all is good, who cares what he does with it after you get your money Thumbs Up

Go for it....as long as he gives you cash or bank transfer whats the worry? The most you could lose is your ebay listing price.

From people reporting back on here, I'd say there seems to be a much higher rate who were happy with the transaction when it was with Polish people buying to sell in Poland Smile.
Not saying this case is/isn't dodgy, but from what people that have completed the transaction are saying, it sounds like that shouldn't be a cause for concern, at least.

Is your bike 'rare'? He could be contacting you so quickly as he might of been looking for the same bike for a while? When I sold my CG the chap e-mailed me within 30mins and was round within an hour, he was perfectly legit.

Pretty sure you can set up ebay to email you if an item that matches certain search parameters goes up for auction.

Either way I'd not worry unduly.

As a seller, be wary of hijacked accounts. i had someone bid on a nokia N8 i was selling, only to find out it was a hijacked account. However, if he has had a lot of activity on the account, this is unlikely.

As someone said earlier, carry out the transaction in a bank. perfect place to do it, and a legitimate buyer will have no issues with that. He may ask for a test ride if he is looking to keep it. Just tell him to leave all the cash, and if he feels he doesn't want the bike, but returns it with no damage, then he'll get his cash back.

these days a lot of polish guys will buy a bike here and take it back to poland as they can sell em for a lot more. normally legit.

be wary, and be sensible but it should be ok.

as suggested, get him to pay a token amount into paypal and then the rest in cash on collection.

I sold a bike to a Polish guy who was going to resell it in Poland. It's a newly affluent(ish) country, new bikes are very expensive and there is little stock of decent second hand bikes over there.

I would take enough on paypal to cover your ebay listing costs and your time - so probably £50 - and the rest cash on delivery.

The guy who I was dealing with had excellent English, and had his mate/mechanic with him to check over the bikes. Seemed that exporting bikes was how they spent their weekends, fill up the van on friday night then drive to Poland.

As above really, I've had several bikes bought by Polish guys, and everyone has been an easy sell....they didn't even test ride or give them much of a check over!

Just make sure you get cash rather than paypal!

I would much rather deal with Polish re-seller then with a haggling cunt who tries to get 500quid off the asking price without any reason whatsoever.

Going by the advert, conditon and price I'd say the guy is almost certainly legit. I wouldn't take a deposit, I'd just tell him to come round with cash but to phone before he leaves to be sure it's not sold.

Can only echo what the others have said really. It's probably ok, I've had a couple of bikes bought by gents from Europe.
