Netbook for less than £250?

Any suggestions?

I know nothing about netbooks but having lugged a 'laptop' with a 17" widescreen half way around the world I think I need one.

Any opinions on good / bad ones? What spec should I be looking for? Battery life and good wifi is important. Best option at the moment seems to be the Acer Aspire one 521.

Aspire One is a good netbook. We give them to our guys when they go on trips to China so they can Skype back to their families.

I've had loads of netbooks.

I'd say the <901s are too small and were broken out the box due to a crappy OS, this only recently got cured with unbuntu 9+10.

The NC10 and EEE1000s are pretty nifty my sister has the NC10 Andy her BF has the eee1000. Both were handed down from me buying them in VAT free Asia. You can get NC10s refurbs for about £150, my dad's was an argos refurb.

You can get EEE1000 refurbs for about £140 with winxp on them.

I just bought an N130, £218 delivered off amazon. 1.6ghz cpu, 1gb ram 160gb HD, 10.1" screen etc. Looks nice too. Battery is alright, not quite so epic as i was hoping from a netbook, but it will do 4 hours of whatever between charges.

I have a really basic EeePC (700 I think).

The screen is very small but I'm using a netbook remix version of Ubuntu that has a lot of features to help deal with this such as hot areas on the screen to hover on and split windows and extensive use of hotkeys.

Battery life is small but it's a very small battery.

The wireless functionality is excellent.

Another vote for the Samsung NC10, well built little bit of kit. Surprisingly able to, I ran Cubase SX3 on it as a test and it copes with a couple of VST instruments and effects OK and plays older games no problem.

It's become my main everyday machine.

Mines dual booting XP and ubuntu 10.10 (with that elegant ignome theme).
Battery seems to last 4 hours no matter what i do, you can get a battery twice the size for £35 off ebay.

Good point about the battery. The Samsung NC10 shows 13 hours! In real world terms that must be at least 10.

The N130 is basically the same netbook, but with a slightly larger keyboard (still a little small tbh) and much more rounded edges to it. My mate had the NC10 and i thought about buying one, but i'm glad i got the N130. It's a little lighter than his, feels a little smaller but witht he same size screen. It has the same cpu & ram along with the same size battery and the same 7.5 hour estimated battery time, best i've got is maybe 4.5 hours?
Granted i'm not running a netbook specific OS, but that's with the brightness to lowest, speakers off, wireless off cpu scaled back to 800mhz, and a bunch of tweeks.

If either laptop would last 7.5 hours on a single charge i'll start believing those kids talking about 130mph RS125's

NC10+ uses a 4400mAh 6 cell battery, the same as the NC10 and N130, so i really can't see it lasting any longer than either of them.

The NC10+ does look good spec wise, but that 13.8 hour claim is laughable and is probably with it on standby or at a complete idle with all the discs spun down and the CPU inactive etc.

Acer Aspire One the basic model the screen is tiny and the running on Windows it is very slow. Depending on what you are going to do, the Linux models will be cheaper but not be what you want.

Honestly i think the smaller netbooks the screens are wide but way to small for browsing, i would look a getting a slightly bigger model. I have listed a few models below:
