Help me out!

Hello,

I just started work on the railway and my area of work is quite rural, lots of nice country roads and an easy ride to work, about 5 miles each way.

Now I have had a Yamaha XT125R sitting in my garage for about 6 months just doing nothing, very bad I know.

I passed my CBT on a scooter, I got the bike from a friend for a good price, but I have been out a couple of times at night as I just can't get used to gears, I find myself thinking too much and get worried.

I'm perfectly fine on a scooter, its so fustrating as I'm bloody walking to work atm!

I really just want to get on the roads and get comfortable with riding.

Are there any none geared bikes out there, none scooters if possible, my main thing is feeling confident atm on a bike so this is what I should be riding I think.

Can anyone recomment anything that looks nice and is none geared?

I've looked in the scooter range but nothing takes my fancy, I don't mind paying for a brand new bike, limit is £2000.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Dunno about looking nice, that's subjective, but it will be cheap.

Ah, I read the bit that said, "Passed my test", and figured he meant he'd passed his test.

In that case, the Gilera DNA is quite pretty for a moped.

Oh...I really didn't read that properly. However can you do a full bike test on a scooter?

Best advice I can give is get used to gears. Take yourself into a carpark one sunday when its empty and practice until you can manage.

Also spend time running through the motions off the bike. If your getting a lift anywhere by car or bus every time you hear or see the driver change gear run through the actions. Throttle off, Clutch in, Change gear, Throttle out, clutch out.

Sooner or later it will all click and you'll never look back.

Gears aren't that scary mate. If you can get a mate who rides to go with you to a car park or something and just have a practice. You will have so much more fun once you make the transition to geared bikes. And for £2000 you will be able to get yourself a sweet first bike. Good luck, I hope that you go geared and not just a twist and go.

Yeah i'm definitely with rustle on this one. Nothing wrong with scooters but geared bikes give you much more control, and set you up for bigger bikes in the future

Don't give up! Just spend a whole day just practicing it till you get it. Or go to a school and get some lessons. You should get it with in an hour.
