You could always book one by where you live, then put it through, then if it fails then it's the excuse to ride it home again. If it passes all is well eh!

Yes, but the insurance isn't valid without an MOT. So drive straight to the MOT centre.

/Quick highjack

How do you go around taxing without a current MOT? my MOT ran out a month or so ago and whilst getting the bike sorted to go through an MOT the tax ran out so have had to SORN the bike.

Eh? My insurance cert says vehicle must be 'Roadworthy'. The MOT is not proof of roadworthyness as stated on the back of it. As long as the bike is roadworthy, there are no probs.

Note: Some insurers do stipulate MOT, but most only request roadworthyness.

Apply for the tax disc online... with the start date the same day you intend having it MOT'd.

Strictly speaking its a bit naughty doing it this way.. but will save a bit of hassle. It is the only way to get a tax disc without an MOT. But.. you will have to tell them you have one on the application page.

Its what I would do in your situation.

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

This won't work, they check if you have a valid MOT

You can ride to the MOT without tax.
Then you can ride to the post office and get tax.
Alternative is to ride home and leave sufficient time for MOT details to be uploaded then but tax online.

Note that I believe it's a £60 fine with no points generally for no MOT.
It's incredibly rare to be randomly done for no MOT.

It is absolutely legal to ride to an MOT centre providing there is no MOT or Tax. I believe an insurance company would have a very hard time claiming you were uninsured in this case, even if they said you had to have MOT.
I think they'd actually have a pretty hard time in other cases too, as it goes.

legal to ride to and from MOT station without tax and MOT
illegal to ride to the post office for tax after getting the MOT. You will have to ride home again then walk to the post office. if you apply on line for your tax you still can't ride legally until you can display the disc.

You have to book it into the MOT station though and supply your number plate details. This means, that if you are ever caught without an MOT but are merely riding it to take it for one. The police may well check up and of course, the details you supplied to the garage will prove you are genuine.

The only time you can ride/drive without an MOT is when your going to get the MOT.
But it has to be pre-booked. Some police will check this just to make sure you doing what you say.

BUT it must be insured. No ifs , No buts. Not sure about if its SORNed, but that's why there a website about this stuff.

I did email DVLA about this, but can't bloody find it now, boo.

WAIT, just found it

Quote:
I can confirm that you can legally drive an untaxed vehicle on the public highway, directly to a pre-booked MOT test and home again providing you have insurance.
