The narrator sums it up perfectly at the end.

Sexual vid though

See top gear. Every time they review a car it's the "best ever". They did say he was a former GT2 champion - sure he's well used to race cars that are much faster.

And this was all with a Ducati rather than a fast bike Razz.

The track test does rather depend on where they take it.
Nurburgring with a lot more faster corners etc and the bike will probably be losing sight of the car pretty quickly.

But what would the lap time of the bike been if they had Rossi or Lorenzo riding?

There's never going to be a truly level playing field between bikes and cars. But that's what makes this the eternal argument Laughing

Loved the vid BTW Thumbs Up

This video rocked my world.

And it made me think, the bike probably was slower in the corners but the narrator was right, it has an order of magnitude better power to weight ratio which means it was breaking and accelerating in and out of the corners probably much faster.

Those are some serious balls as well to push a bike to that limit in order to beat such a car in my humble opinion.

Unlikely the bike will out brake the car. A decent car should be able to brake at around 1G too, but tends to be able to brake harder deep in the corner.

Corner speeds tends to be fairly similar. from what I've seen - around 1G for either generally.

Accelerating out of the corners, the bike will have it as soon as it's upright enough to go to wide-open-throttle.

What changes all that is when you start to get decent downforce.
Then the car can absolutely obliterate the bike as far as braking and cornering goes; acceleration will depend on how much power you have to back it up.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mUBCNg3xO8&t=8m41s
At high speed, the braking just from the down force of an F1 car is 1G; think they get up to 4-6G actually using their brakes. Maximum braking on a bike is around 1G.

Downforce is what makes F1 more boring to watch anyway. It's an incredible spectacle of speed, skill and courage but doesn't let the drivers shine as they should.

Point taken though. I wonder if you could attach wings to the side of a bike.

Great until you try and lean the other way Smile.

Not sure it's downforce that makes it boring as the size of them. While not massive, they're still a load wide than a bike, but pretty fragile so best to avoid contact (as it seems to work in a lot of touring car passes, for instance!)

I'm always impressed at just how fast an F1 car can go when it's got decent force. Another example of not having it is Richard Hammond in a F1 car at Silverstone. They let him out on the Stowe circuit which is so tiny and only has sharp corners really; that I doubt the downforce ever comes in to play.
So of course it would seem like a handful to him Rolling Eyes.

Like Ducati did in MotoGP this year??! OK, not F1-style, but they have been playing with 'downforce' for a while.

Wow, that's awesome. I bet those start to do a fair bit over 150MPH too. I was thinking bigger though.

But what exactly is it going to do at 150mph?
No real issue with keeping the front down there.
Not sure it'll help with cornering much either - the problem being that any extra force is presumably going to have a decent horizontal component, when you want purely vertical on the tyre, presumably.

I'm suprised they left the winglets on for rossi to be honest, having such a smoother/different style than stoner.

but i think that it was developed in the Ferrari wind tunnel, so it 'must' have an affect to a degree. Question Confused

Do we know what they're actually 'for'?
In some cases, odd aerodynamic stuff is more about smoothing the airflow etc than specific downforce.

They were designed to improve front end grip by acting as a spoiler and push the front tyre into the tarmac more, make your own mind up on if you think it worked or not, i think it was 'abit' of a psychological thing for stoner.
