Took me 5 hours to get home this afternoon (a distance of 30 miles). Today in Holland we've had the worst snow for quite a few years. I even saw one brave soul out on two wheels. At least I was warm and dry in my little Citroen.

So anyone else had a worse commute ?

I had my first ride home in the snow this morning. It was an awesome experience as it tought me a lot about slow riding. I just kept the bike upright with virtually no leaning at all.

When I got to junctions I left at least 2 car lengths between me and the next car. I pulled away in 2nd gear and pretty much travelled 10-15 mph all the way home. Luckily my coummute is a round trip of about 7 miles. It took me about 35-40 mins to get home, but I just took it easy, never used the front brake, used the back brake slightly and used engine breaking most of the way.

If is was slushy snow, I probably would have had a worse experience, I was just glad to get home in one piece.

120-odd miles on nothing but icy roads today. -6C still air temperature - wouldn't like to speculate what the chill factor might have been. Was much worse than riding in the snow of a couple of weeks back.

Celebrating 20 years of owning my RXS today and about half a dozen times almost marked the occasion by having a big crash Shocked Laughing

Well I think that today was the worst commute in 8 years of biking.

Decided to take the snow and ice in Weston Super Mare on and ended in 2nd place!!

Ended up loosing the rear end on some pack ice and ate tarmac for 3 courses and broke my steed Sad

Sounds all to familiar, unfortunately...
I have an 8 to 10 mile urban commute that normally takes about 15 minutes at most. It took me almost an hour of the worst conditions I've ever ridden in (as well a dropping it twice) and I still didn't even get the bike back to the house. I had to abandon the bike at the side of the main road near the end of our street.
