my 1989 tzr has been de-restricted witch swaps the restriction from the top end to the bottom so it revs out, this is done by turning the power valve around but can u remove it or just replace it with a rod that would not restrict it at all? or am i asking for trouble?

The only way to fully de restrict an old model TZR is as you probably know to fit a powervalve kit which isnt cheap. By turning and re pegging the YPVS valve then you get power from 7-10K but sod all below that. The YPVS motor unit, cables and pulley are the same as a DT125R and the latest 2000 > models have it fitted, so maybe you could find one in a breakers, i think this would work ok, but im not sure whether you would need the DT cdi unit as well, or if the servo motor wiring plugs into your cdi unit. But without a kit you cant have both top and bottom end power.

Hi

Fairly certain that you dont need to swap the cdi to fit the servo motor and cables (but maybe if you are using those from a later bike such as the DTR). With the valve twisted you have full power at the top end, but I have heard that some TZRs also had a restriction in the exhaust. The one we had years ago would only manage 85mph with the valve twisted (75 without)

All the best

Keith
