In addition to my other thread, I was wondering if anyone has a GS500 restrictor kit they'd be willing to part with for a few pictures of the queen/a pint, or the dimensions to make the required parts?

Edit: phoned through to my local Suzi dealer. They want £310 for parts and labour! Laughing

The dimensions I've seen are: 38mm OD - i.e. a 38mm repair washer - with a 20mm hole offset by couple of mm.

However, I don't know how the washer is supposed to be oriented in the inlet, so I'd just drill the hole in the middle.

Might be worth doing a few sets with different sized holes if you're going to bother having it dynoed.

I'll see if I can dig out the pictures I found later.

I'll buy you a FI International restrictors worth of beer if you are right Laughing

Edit: Found this pic, does it look about right?

That hole in the middle looks a little on the small side. 20mm does sound about right.

My Fazer sizes were 38mm outer, 12mm, and a 1 or 2mm (can't remember) little hole about half way between the middle hole and the outer edge. Say that the bike puts out around 85-90bhp.

Bandit sizes are 38mm outer, and an offset hole with a 15.5mm diameter.

When installing both kits, the small hole and the off set hole both go facing towards the bottom. There was an old thread I will try to find about restrictors.

20mm inner sounds about right!

Hope that helps.

Apologies for the quality and size - I'd have resized them, but it turns out life is too short.

At, say, £40 for fitting, that's only £135 per washer from your dealer. Steal!

Screw the dealer, I'll read up and do it myself Laughing

If I could give you more karma I would. However if you're around the SE much I'll happily buy you a lot of beer Laughing

I made mine with the hole central, and it made 32BHP on the dyno, which ain't bad for home made washers!
Took them out and had it run again, turns out it only made 38bhp any way..... Confused

If your bike is restricted, even if you have fitted them yourself, then in the event of a crash , or getting stoped and them dynoing your bike, there is fuck all they can do, if they are fitted then it's legal.
It's either 33bhp and legal, or not 33bhp and illegal, full stop.
The paperwork means fuck all, it all stems from FI internationals scaremongering.
Yes some insurance companys as to see proof, almost all of them accept a dyno printout. There is however NO legal requiment for a dyno print out, FI certificate ect ect

the price youve been quoted is a piss take on a gs500 takes about an hour max if your mr anal.as to making your own you will need a dyno read out and an insurance company who will accept it if signed off by motorcycle shop. if not your insurance will be invalid as they have the restrictor kits on insurance data base which the shop has to sign off to say bike is restricted and a copy you hold and copy for shop if any part of this little ripoff system is missing in the event of an accident they will bum rush you and you will suddenly find your not insured ,bastards.and if you buy dodgy ebay one( fill it in yourself)this obviously won't be recorded etc and they won't accept you fitting secound hand set and swapping paper work for a nominal fee we tried and was told politely to f£$%k off as"we can't guarantee the parts once theyve been fiited to one bike..blah blah blah" I'm sure some one might know of insurance company that will accept dyno reading as evidence good luck

My current insurance company didn't require proof of restriction, didn't even ask. As far as they know it's full power. I've got a very friendly owner of a smaller bike shop who'll happily dyno and sign it off, so no problems there Smile

Cost me £35 for my dyno. Those washers came up at 29.18 bhp I think Rob. Let me know what yours come up as!

Also will be interesting to see what your afr looks like as they did weird things to mine. I think it was because of my exhaust though!

haha i'll see if the insurance want proofof restriction, else i'll just leave it

what was up with your exhaust ? i'll be getting a stuby hopefully

Well, it had holes all over it and also had a Viper can, so not a massive amount of back pressure.

I think in the lower revs it was bout 13.5:1 which is pretty good, but after about 6k, it just went all over the place.

I've just bodged myself a throttle stop now at the handlebar end. I really cba with taking the carbs apart to fit the kit I bought off Chris.

I would be tempted to Dyno it anyway as then if Mr Plod stops you, you can show them the Dyno and it should hopefully suffice Thumbs Up (Fingers crossed though)

More easy method.

Please read the index 2 & 3:

1. So check your filter is it have the funnel inside. If no add one. example paper cup

2. Seal the filter air intake half

Easy

Will these dimensions of washer be sufficient for a Yamaha fazer 600?
