What Odie said. Or possibly a broken spring under one of the rollers. They usually go intermittant before failing altogether.
It's under the clutch cover. Not a big job to do. Once the oil's drained and the cover is off, jam a bit of stout cloth (folded over bit or denim or similar) into the gears to lock the starter clutch and clutch gears so you can undo the centre nut without it all turning.
You sometimes find bumping it slightly backwards in gear turn things enough for it to catch next time. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
