Adobe Reader X

Hi all - I'm currently running one of my machines as a Windows 7 64-bit installation, and I'm finding that Adobe Reader X is dog slow to load. Anyone else getting this? I'm running a fair bit of stuff int he background (since I'm coding iPhone apps), but the CPU/RAM aren't getting bogged down at all, according to Task Manager.

Specification for those who feel the need for it:
AMD Phenom 2.8GHz (6 cores)
8GB RAM
Win7 x64 SP1

It's weird - it's acting like it's having to page a shitload of stuff, but there's never really any more than about 2 GB of RAM in use (unless I'm playing games, of course).

Any thoughts?

I know fuck all about anything technical, and to me it seems like Adobe Reader has ALWAYS been like that.

Its mega annoying.
I used to get the same problem with it about 5 years ago on whatever version I had on Windows Millenium, and the publishers I used to work for had a problem in their downstairs office, where it always hung for [what seemed like] *hours* ... hence I only ever did editing in the upstairs office

But then, I always used to think it was cos I had budget computers, never top spec.

Having said that, my Adobe Reader currently runs smoother than a baby's bottom.

It runs fine once it's loaded, it's just that loading takes an age. I'm pretty sure that I could write something that'd display .pdf files in flash faster, FFS.

I'll take a look at the foxit thing: I'm a little dubious of installing shedloads of stuff on this machine since a) it's my production box, and b) the C: drive is an SSD, so it's not huge.
I'll probably end up using it, though.

Ho hum: looks like I've got another justification for getting a tablet; run something displaying reference material to one side of the screen, reclaim desktop, win.

If it helps dude,

Ive been using foxit for years, it has all the functionality of Adobe Reader, but takes up but a smidgen of the space.

Just dont install all the crap that comes with software these days.

Another vote for Foxit, been using it for years too - much smaller footprint, runs much faster, and biggest plus point, it ain't Adobe
