Why is it that my laptop seems to have gotten louder?

The fan was pretty much non-existent when I bought the thing at the beginning of 2010.
There really isn’t much on it, it runs ok, no viruses etc. But when it’s been on for no longer than 5 minutes the fan will buzz fairly loudly. Confused

Take it apart, clean the strip of fluff from the heatsink.

Stop smoking, get rid of your pets, put up fly paper (or adopt some spiders), start using Head & Shoulders and nit shampoo, and swap all your woolen/cotton gear for leather and PVC.

Well OK I haven't done all of those, but my fan's still fine after nearly 5 years. Spins down to an inaudible level when idle and has always gone full blast when CPU is maxed... the temperature may have gone up a degree, maybe two, but it's not like my cousins who had their lappies in an extremely tech-hostile environment and both machines died of heat poisoning within 2 years.

The stress comes when the ACHI occasionally drops a bollock and forgets to spin it up when some unavoidable long chunk of processing starts and it shoots up to 70+ celcius even when I slap the speedstep down to minimum in a panic... and it won't go into Sleep either. Time to sit it on top of a desk fan for a couple hours.
