Ok, my suzuki gp100 has been running strangely this morning. i started it and it was running and then cutting and restarting really quickly and then running fine and when i revved it, it just bogged and cut and then when i kick it to start it starts but backfires a squeak noise, its not seized, but the plug is very very black, anyone got any idea of whats going on?

Thanks for your time

Matt

Whats your compression like? Take plug out and put finger over the hole, kick the bike over.

are you running pre-mix or using the autolube tank? Black is very rich, more history on the bike is better for us to diagnose. ie the bike has been like this x amount of time, it has done this since I got it, I have buggered around with the carb etc. Give us more information!

Good call, there may well be water in the tank, the plug is getting very black and oily though. i took my air filter box off, took the element out and it was very brittle, it just broke away in my hands, could this have been a problem?

no filter rammed in the inlet, cleaned carb, put new filter on, plug is still getting black, could the problem be a dodgy plug?

what plug is it? Worth a new plug, as they are generally considered a common replaced part on any 2 stroker

Should be a NGK B8HS from memory

wrong plug thats why its fouling up cos its too hot a plug!. Get the B8HS in there matey! If that was in my GP100 I would have broken down after 3 miles on the motorway cos it fouled up!

see this

well what i wrote seems to contradicts what the link i put in says.

As its black and oily it seems you have a cold plug!? As far as I know if the numbers go up its a colder plug, and hotter if the number goes down

ie a B8HS is a colder plug than the B5HS plug.

I stand to be shot down but I'm pretty certain thats right.

edit: it may be a faulty oiling system, ie the pump is setup wrongly and over oiling. Or the plug itself is naff. Because the B5HS is a very hot plug, you will blow a hole in the piston at some point! which is nasty!

BH8S is colder than BH5S

In this situation it will make almost no difference. Get the right one if you can but no biggy.

B8HS is the standard plug, not a B5HS, so would still end up melting a piston

i ended up getting two B8HS, they are apparently the same as the B5HS but they have a resistor in or something, running better than ever though.

the B5HS which is hotter will have a longer insulator nose than the B8HS, they will look physically the same but great you got the right one and all is fine. Resistor NGK spark plugs have the letter R stamped on em.

well its the standard plug on my GP100, and so says the book as well. Is that what was written in the suzuki owner's manual, you got?

My B8HS plug has been running fine for a good half a year of continuous use now.

edit: i'm confused are you saying suzuki recommend the B5HS plug or the B8HS?
