Hey folks. As the title says. I have just got my ferry tickets. Dover to Dunkirk. Not sure really where to go. Dates are from thr 28th May to the 5th June. Have done Normandy twice now but want to go somewhere different this time. I have heard good stuff about the Black forest but not alot else.

Anyone got any suggestions??

Cheers

Around Chamonix and nearby parts of Switzerland is not too far and plenty to do apart from ride bike - like go up the mountains on cable cars and little trains.
Try to suss the weather as it can be persistently rainy round there for days and really mess things up, when away from the high peaks is dry.
If it's rainy to the NW of the Alps it can be very different if you move south a day's ride.

If camping you have the required flexibility Smile

If on a budget like me - find yourself a reasonable destination (depending on your riding abilities time/distance-wise), e.g. 200 miles a day, and when it comes to 3pm put in the sat nav POI - Camping. Mine varied from 9 to 19 euros, bit cold (camping in Denmark is a serious business!), but never disappointed.

If first timer I would recommend southern France/eastern Spain. And European Breakdown cover lol Smile

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

So you have eight day's. Is that four day's out and four day's back. Or is that one two day's out and the rest ride round where you have arrived?

Or would you like to tag along with us. We are going out on the 28 of May, from Dover. And running to the south of France. It's tenting to keep the cost down. Our crossing is at 8 am arriving in France a 10am. First stop is Dijon. We are staying at a camp site. map ref

If you would like to meet us there on the night of Saturday. We will take you down south.

It's a horrid ride from the north of france to dijon and takes some time too.

There is an F1 hotel in dijon which is cheap, but it's disgusting. Rooms stink of fags and the facilities are all plastic and leave a lot to be desired. Camping is better.

Once you get passed Dijon to Grenoble there is Route Napolean all the way to cannes

I have no idea how you have come to the conclusion that the ride from Calais to Dijon is a horrid ride. As for F1 hotel, if that where you want to stay so be it. So far you are the only one who think's the way you do. On this trip there are three well seasoned traveller's who are all looking forward to the trip. Apart from the weather, I have enjoyed me self every time I have gone across to Europe. To travel is better than stay at home and wish you had done something.
