|

I have just passed my full bike test and got myself a CBR600 fx, I am the worst person there is when it comes to the up-keep of my car and now my bike !!!!
My wife fills the car with anti freeze ( I'm that bad ((lazy)
My question is, on my cbr there are large air intakes on the front, riding in the hot weather there must be flies and god knows what going in there........... where do they go and do I need to get them out or clean the inside at any point ???
Also what other things should I keep on top of (apart from the seat when riding) oiling the chain ect and when ???
Anyone use or see the point of crash bobbins ?
Ta very much

You probably want to try and lube the chain every couple of weeks, depending on how much riding you have done.
The ram air intakes go to the air box, inside of which there is an air filter. It's probably worth cleaning the air filter every four thousand miles or so, it's surprising how much difference it can make. To get to it you just need to remove the tank and take the top off the air box.
To clean it you can just use warm soapy water, but after it has dried out it is important that you liberally cover it in oil, to stop moisture being able to pass through it so easily and get into your engine.
Other thing that are worth doing regularly include checking the tension of you chain, ideally you want to have about 15mm of play in it.
Tyre pressures are also worth checking regularly, they will make a big difference to the handling of the bike it they are over or under inflated.
Bleeding and cleaning your brake callipers is in my opinion worth doing every four thousand miles or so too. ____________________ Gallery |

I'm a youngen so don't know the conversion factors, but Im aware your looking for 3/4 inch of free play in the chain. Im guessing thats around 14-15mm. 3mm is too tight !
I dont see the need for the auto lube, It's more fun and rewarding to maintain your own bike instead of paying for a machine to do it for you.
Tyre pressures a big they make a lot of difference. Other than what has been mentioned, keep an eye on the sprockets and keep it all polished and your sorted ! ____________________ RooRoo: just like the time i stuck my finger up my arse with no lube at all and she didnt talk to me for hours |
