When i got the bike it bumpstarted and ran Rough, ripped through the gears but a very lumpy idle And the main problem was the bad engine conversion done by two jackasses Who Used Socket pieces as spacers on engine mounts...

The main thing is a minor crack on a frame mount
(Potentially very dangerous)

And the side Arm That swings down to Hold the Engine had Been bodged, Very Soon the welding work on the frame is going to be done My dads a FULL time welder and does alot of custom work so his work is safe and to a high standard will post pics to prove.

Good project, and a promising thread.

But your seemingly random use of capital letters ruins it (for me).

To be completely fair, grind the numbers off the head, and no one will know. The actual power output of those chinese engines won't surpass your learner licence anyway.

Looks good. Will keep an eye on this. Smile

Few things to update not much as finishing of this years college and had quite abit to do recently

New Plug, DRP9EA.. It's the one the engine came with and the site pattern parts reckons its from a VFR 750 NC23 Shocked

Anyway

The old plug
https://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/250563_1816712095948_1184473155_31719233_6519829_n.jpg

The new plug

The "Dodgy" engine mounts i was talking about

Rear Engine mount
https://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/225257_1816712255952_1184473155_31719234_5270929_n.jpg

Front swinging engine mount

Good job i stripped it down, if it got through MOT no doubt the engine would fall out if i attempted any greenlaning Neutral

EDIT: Useful piece of Sandpaper under the sidestand there mainly because someone wasnt too happy about the dents in the conservatory floor Rolling Eyes

Snowie's Chiniese AJS had Kehen Japan on it too.
Loads of the Chinese pit bike engines have carburettors that say Keihen or Mikuni on then 'JAPAN'...
I seriousely doubt that all these ebay specials from china are shipped from Japan to china for the chinkies to flog on ebay! Do you?
My fags say 'Alfred Dunhill - London - Paris - New York' on the packet, I doubt very much that they are made in any of those three locations, let alone all of them....
Possibilities:
- casting is proclaiming the manufacturer / licence holder as Keihin or Mikuni OF Japan.... (Naughty, but legally possibly legit)
- Castings are made IN japan, and they are assembled into built up Carbs in China (unlikely)
- Chinese have aquired the tooling from Japan... haven't changed the markings.... (possible)
- Chinese have meticulousely copied every detail of the Keihin or Mikuni carburettor, right down the the (indecipherable to them) European lettering.... (likely!)

As you can see in the pics there is hardly any room for the Exhaust Downpipe to fit into the engine because it hits the arm only by about 1mm

It's been slightly altered so the pipe fits in (when i got the bike i test rode it with no exhaust and it sounded like crap)

https://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/247706_1823353381976_1184473155_31728022_3366931_n.jpg

The Swinging engine support bar has only 1 fixing right now but its getting extended to the bottom to catch the under engine mount point too also going to be shaped to flare out like a little belly pan Razz

also having two support bars coming off the frame to hold the rear top mount (see pics)

Progress pics on the front tomorrow

EDIT: the Kickstart clearly hits the footpeg Neutral
Making a custom one
Thumbs Up

You plan on doing your test... with a 250 lump in there.

All I can say is good luck, any biker should know the sound difference straight away... Especially the examiner Rolling Eyes

Sound? I've heard 125 4 stroke's with baffles out pretty loud my 250 with baffles in isn't going to sound anything out of the ordinary.

125 on the logbook, If your using your bike they check it's safe and that's all, If i get declined Fair enough ill knock it on the head and loan a bike Thumbs Up

So been working on the bike today,

This is what the front engine mount used to look like
https://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/226475_1816712575960_1184473155_31719235_2963001_n.jpg

Grinded this off it.
https://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/246884_1842234333988_1184473155_31758149_4278599_n.jpg

Been Re designed to catch the bottom engine mounts too and act as a little belly pan (Look's Rough in Photos still being modified and needs painting)

https://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/249510_1842234013980_1184473155_31758147_7625021_n.jpg

decided to grind down some of the nasty welds on the subframe and prime and paint it up

https://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/254111_1842234653996_1184473155_31758150_4670212_n.jpg

Then the rear engine Mounts, welded ,grinded, primed, painted

Before

After

Yes.
Its an illegal, mongrel of clapped out unpopular bike with an even less common, chinese motor....

Go on, try and sell it to me, when I start asking really impertinent questions about reliability, spares support, and stuff like that!

Its worth something to YOU becouse you have built it, but to any opne else its a BAD risk.... foirst becouse its not what it pretends to be on the log book, then becouse it doesn't conform to any known standard spec, with lots of stuff in its mix they have no idea about, any mechanic they take it to will be scratching thier head over, and thats before the concerns over whether all teh welds you have made to teh frame are going to crask or break and cause them to crash, Or what would happen if they got stopped by the rozzers, or anything else.

Sorry.... yeah, some numpty might think it a great gag and give you silly money for it, but I doubt they are a thousand pound 'silly'!

Lets be realistic here; if any-oine wanted a hi-po dirt bike, and had a grand in spare change, they'd be looking for a DT.... what can your bike do SO much better that would make it worth as much as a DT?

Lets try £750. Anyone with that kind of money could have an older DT or a KMX, or play it safe with four stroke, 125 like an XR or City-Fly.

If they don't have that kind of money, well, into beggers and choosers territory, and even older dirt donks, boring commuters and chinese 'rubbish'.... that market warrants £500... with chinese bikes, which with that engine, yours essentially is, without even the benefit of being the 'safer' CG derived lump.... to offset any notional performance gain from being twice the size it should.

So, may look nice, but when you come down to it, what do you REALLY think any-one is likely to actually give you in real folding money?

From earlier comments, about doing your test and getting A2....

My advice, rather than 'risk' £75 on being refused a test.... add £50 to that and book your test through a school on a hire bike...... its not an issue then.

ONCE you have the licence in your pocket... you have a perfect bike to ride out your two year restriction, riding the thing perfectly legally, provided you declare the capacity change.

If you have the faith in your workman ship, then you can get the value from your effort using the thing......

I DOUBT you'll get value, probably not even what you have spent on it, trying to sell it on as some kind of 'super cheater' learner-illegal!

There are a LOT 'safer' ways to be learner illegal at that kind of money, or a LOT less.

I agree with you mike but when i'm finished it's not going to be

"an illegal, mongrel of clapped out unpopular bike with an even less common, chinese motor"

It's going to be Have 4 engine mounts

One top front
One top bottom
One rear front
One rear bottom

With professional welding work each mount will have a M10 spaced bolt with Nylock nuts holding it in place, The engine can't move and it wont go anywhere. I'm taking this bike greenlaning because i know it will pull its own weight.

and i get the feeling when i say my step dads a professional welder you think i'm lying he's done custom work all his life, Rebuilt cars from ground up right now he's working on his triumph Stag.

I've seen people pay stupid money for bikes and this bike is going to be safe, legal and pretty when i'm finished.

Anyway your right about it being for me it's the main reason i'm doing it for me not for profit ill use it as a 125 for 2 months book and take my a2 declare it, ride it until i'm bored then sell it for what i can as a 250.
