|
|
My WR400 has ditched a 1/4 of a tank of petrol on my garage floor in the space of a few hours.. there are no leaks, it seems to all have come from the carb drain hoses..
It's never done this before so it's obvious this is now actually a problem.
From what I learnt at college, it seems like the carb float valve could be worn and isn't blocking the flow of petrol off correctly, or the float could be stuck/worn/incorrect height.
Does this sound about right??? Should be easy to fix?

It needs an oil change anyway, so I'll do that, and also make sure I turn the bloody tap to off, I keep forgetting.. do you think I need to replace anything in the carbs, or shall I do the oil change and keep turning to off and that should be okay? ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

could use the tried and tested "ben's method for fixing stuck floats in carbs technique" and kick it, till it sorts it self out
whip the carb put mate, its not that old nothing should be that worn, blow through the fuel line in and test the float by moving them up and down ect, could replace the valve if really keen. ____________________ F'it DO WHAT EVER MAKES YOU HAPPY!!!!! Even if it screws over everyone else :p

Thinking about it, I ran out of petrol 20 mins before I put it in the garage and had to fill up a lucozade bottles worth from a mates bike was trying for quite a few kicks before it re-started though, could it have flooded the carb from there? I've never had any problems with it before and have never turned the fuel of before.. I think I might leave it for the time being, and make sure I turn the fuel off at night, and see what it's like in a few days, if it's still doing it then it's carb out time..
I'll sort the oil and see what it's like, thanks.. ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

A group of us went to a MAG rally some years ago, and one of the guys had an RD350LC, which was more thirsty than usual. Suspecting a sticking float, he stripped the carb and found what looked amazingly like...

Try tapping the carb sharply with something like a deadblow hammer (or the heel of a shoe as advocated by smoto bob). If the float is sticking, this can free it off.
There is every possibility that running the tank dry may have allowed a fine particle of shite to get trapped in the valve seat.
Something else to consider is, if your bike has a vaccuum fuel tap, the petrol shouldn't be getting as far as the carb anyway. The diaphragm in that could be knacked, or you could have left it on 'prime' when you filled it up? ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen.
