|

Hey, I have no spark in my 2001 NSR. I've changed the alternator, impulse coil, ignition coil, spark plug cap, CDI and a spark plug of course, with no effect at all. I measured the resistance everywhere where possible and it was fine (according to the manual). I also measured the voltage given to the CDI while running the starter and I recieved ~60V AC (which, according to what I've already read here is ok).
I' ve had 2 CDIs - CI572 (which was in the bike when the spark disappeared) and a CI639 (which might have been faulty).
I have no spark on both, but the voltage given to the ignition coil (measured between the yellow/black and green wires) is about 60V on CI572 and only about 25V on CI639 (that's why i think it was broken).
I checked all the wires in the installation and they are fine. I tried pulling off the white/black wire from the CDI - still no spark. I checked if there is ground on the cylinder head and it is there.
I've also noticed something strange. There was w while when I had spark (I don't know why). It was on a CI572. It was light blue and was sparking in good timing. BUT, when I plugged in the RC valve control unit (TV-124) it disappeared. Then the voltage on the ignition coil wires was lower - about 35V. After unplugging the unit the spark was back. Also, another strange thing was the tachometer. When i tried pushing the bike on the second gear with the ignition switch ON, the tacho was showing crazy values (eg. 10k rpm, which is totally impossible). After a few tries the spark disappeared.
I will probably get a new, 100% working CI639 and try if it works then.
But I am curious if something in the installation is burning the CDIs. Is this possible? Could it be the reg/rec? Or maybe the RC valve control unit is broken and it damages the CDI? How can I check it?
Aha, it would be nice if I introduced how it all began. Nothing special, I was riding as always and suddenly the engine turned off. I managed to start it a few times after that, but it eventually went off again after a few seconds. It finally turned off with crazy values on the tachometer, which I have already mentioned.
Sorry for the amount of text, but I wanted everything to be clear. |
