Hi

Heard of it being done with fuel injectors but not found anyone doing it for carbs.

Probably worth doing if they are getting old and a bit gummed up.

All the best

Keith

What is it exactly? Sound like one type of "wave" used to zap crap out of carbs, not needing to open them up...? Surely not.

they are stripped of jets, floats, choke and bowl etc and placed in a tank that passes ultrasonic wave through them

Quote:
Using an ultrasonic cleaner will allow non-profitable time spent scrubbing gummed-up float bowls and jets etc. to be utilised performing more productive tasks. Ultrasonic cleaning works by a process known as cavitation where high frequency sound waves cause microscopic bubbles to form which then violently collapse releasing energy many times greater than that of mechanical brushing. This process will not damage or scratch the surface being cleaned and will effectively remove petrol deposits from float needles, pilot jets etc, with no physical scrubbing required. Another distinct advantage of cleaning with ultrasonics is the speed of operation - often just one hour is adequate, depending on the amount of build up.

they aren`t usually expensive, the point is probably jammed in the jet the screw runs into.

If it still works, leave it jammed in there. Maybe the ultrasonic carb cleaning will loosen it.

Oh yeah, when I put any screw into cast aluminium, I put a little copper grease on. Stops them from seizing in. Thumbs Up

on the last on I had to do (ham fisted twat of a previous owner) the jet went into the carb bore so I could push the broken point out out with the tip of a screwdriver. On some carbs the jet itself will unscrew/push out which would allow you to either get the point out or replace the jet.

Last nut not least, some gentle heat followed by the airline might do it. Good luck. Thumbs Up

PS what bike is it?

ahh the joys of owning obscure grey import 400s.

Cheap for a very good reason they are.

I hate to break the myth but 400 are not cheap they are interesting to have fun on I got and import suzuki and can get most parts from either suzuki main dealer or suzuki direct from japan.

CB1 is quite common so spares from a 400 specialist should not be a problem.

Jon, Ignore baldy's post... PLEASE!

The idea of this forum is surely to get advice from people who know WTF they are talking about.. any pillock who leaves a needle tip jammed into a carb jet needs his nipples tuned with a pair of pliers.
