Have a link? Personally wouldn't spend that much.
Not sure about the rust problem you mentioned MarJay? Unless it's the EXUP valve you're referring too, as they do jam up and rust and are a total bitch to sort out. Ended up chucking mine in the bin, hardly affected the engine IMO.
They are solid bikes, bought mine for £600, used and abused with very long trips, London commutes and all sorts, sold for £400 4ish months later. Needed new tyres.. brakes.. everything.
Only thing I would watch out for are consumables, they do cost alot for the fzr. The only 1 thing I spent on that bike (apart from fuel) was some chain and sprockets. £170 from what I remember. The rear sprocket bolt had siezed, so had to take it to a garage to sort out. . Although same can be said for alot of big bikes. I'd say go for it, only if that comes down in price. No way for a 49k bike. |

Hi
Also not sure on rusting pipes (based on the 20 year old Yamaha pipes on my Bimota, although it has had an easy life), although the EXUP valve does seize up.
For commuting around town I would think it would be a bit heavy and low bared, and with a weak clutch (although easy to change). Some seem to burn a fair bit of oil. Shimmed valves which should rarely need to be touched.
Few bits seem to have started to become unavailable new.
All the best

The downpipes did fall apart on my FZR but they were the originals as far as I know and 15yrs old so that doesn't seem too bad to me.
I just dumped the exup valve and fitted some cheap stainless ones.
They've made it loss a bit of its low/mid range (not dynoed, just from feel) but this is a 400 which has hardly any low/mid range to start with. I doubt you'd really notice on a 1000. ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj
