Just wondered if anyone can recommend me a good ground anchor for temporary use, it only needs to last me 5 weeks (until I get my student loan) .

However only got a budget of £20 max anyone, been looking on ebay and found these which would you recommend

If they're a good ground anchor, they won't be temporary, technically neither of those should come out the ground after 5 weeks. Even if they weren't any good they should act as a deterrent at very least. Nothing else you can chain it too, hide it behind/under?

Disc lock?

Well i'm not sure if they are any good myself with never buying a ground anchor before. I was going to go for the rota force however haven't got the funds for it. Going get a shed for September/November time.

They will be staying in the ground and not coming out but I was just after one that would be most recommended until I get the other one.

At the moment the only thing is a lamppost in the middle of the pavement on the street, which I wouldn't risk. I'll be using a disc lock anyway but just thought for the extra deterrent. Thumbs Up

Buy some concrete and get a pipe of some description that your chain will fit in.
Pour concrete in ground with pipe sticking out top...feed chain through that and thus under the concrete?

Well if you lift one of slabs up and do it there, once you've finished with it you cut any protuding metal out of the way and put the slab back down...no one is none the wiser!

Think ive caught her in a good mood its gone down a treat just got find a pole/pipe now or could put a ground anchor inside the concrete under the slab but would that work Question

That would save the case of someone cutting the chain and it being useless if I can't get it out of the pole.

My best mate had this ground anchor: https://www.yanchor.com/

Which is essentially what I'm on about, but with less bodge pipe...more proper ground achoryness. Laughing
So yeah you could, but you said about it being cheap so I just said the cheapest thing I could think of!

I know people in the past have used an old car engine block, heavy and awkward to move, plus you can sell it as scrap when you have finished with it.

Thanks dude you have been a great help as to everyone else as well, I think i've got a friend that does a spot of weldering I'll see if he can get me something done; maybe welder two pipes together onto a metal pole.

If not I will see if I can get that one in september if the shed falls through so many possibilities to chose from for security. Think I will go for the atv security one that I linked to onto the concrete steps should be suitable for the few weeks.

I'll be riding more than anything anyway include parking it there. Laughing

Enormous D-shackle, welded up and rebar-ed into some concrete. Largely free and simple.

Cool

+1 on this.

Brilliant thing. Easy to install as well (if you have the right tools... I had to dig through 8 inches deep of concrete with a garden fork and a hammer).

Dig a hole, some broken pots/crockery as drainage at the bottom, and a bag of postcrete. That's all you need for one of those.

Why dont you just wait for your loan to come through and get one for around £40.

There are specific removable anchors but theyre going to cost you the same as the fixed versions.

Remember to think about the size of the chain your going to use, as ground anchors come in differnt sizes and its always advisable to fit the larger ground anchors as they are the same cost and should you upgrade to a larger chain in the future it will fit your GA.

For built in Ga's you cant go wrong with the Concave built in herehttps://www.elitesecuritysupplies.com/ground_motorcycle_anchors_built_in.html

If you must do a DIY fit I would suggest getting a piece of "rebar" from your local reclamation yard and cementing it in to an 18" x 18" hole.

Package ground anchor deals for chain and ground anchor are here :https://www.security-chains.com Also has motorcycle security guides and stolen bike alerts.

The best security is nobody knowing its there in the first place, a cover really helps if you can't get it totally out of sight.

When it has to be left outside overnight I've locked my bike to a cars tow hitch (ideally you'd know/ask the person first Wink )

Whatever you decide, do get a ground anchor, I thought my R6 was safe as I had it covered, right outside window in my garden, disc-lock on front, chain around back wheel, plus additional shackle d-lock on back wheel, and guess what. It got nicked!!! The fuckers just dragged it away in the night into a van with all the locks still on the bike! Crying or Very sad Next time i'm definately concreting a metal bar in the ground and getting a chain from a shipyard! Smile

And don't use some shitty mild steel chain either, use a proper one. Almax Immobiliser Series 3 or 4 is pretty good.

This.

Large plant pot, angle iron across middle and attach a joining bar in the middle to connect D-shackle, then fill with concrete. Chain to exposed D shackle. Not going anywhere.

Diagram fail.

Thanks all for the extra tips,
I have managed to sort something out with a ground anchor and high quality chain, won't go into too much detail on here as you never know who is watching best to be too careful than not enough. However this thread will now be helpful for anyone who searches for ground anchor advice, or anyone that is worrying about ground anchors. Thumbs Up

This is what most of us forget about is the pick up and put into a van factor, disc locks etc will only stop the local kids. Alarmed disclocks used on your security chain is are popular idea.

The largest chain on the market is the Untouchable 19.85mm chain and is a "short link" chain (others are long link, 19.85mm refers to the diameter of steel the link itself is made out of, overal width is 63mm to give you some idea)

My advice would be to get a solid metal ring, and a plastic bucket and fill it with concrete. Place the metal ring in the concrete and once it has set, cut away the plastic bucket to reveal your anchor.

Once it is no longer needed, use a sledgehammer to dispose of the bits Thumbs Up
