"A VAN driver has been arrested over a fatal crash in Tottenham Hale yesterday [26/07/2011] morning.

The victim, a 46-year-old motorcyclist, died at the scene of the incident in Broad Lane at about 9.20am.

A 39-year-old man, believed to be the driver of the white Volvo van, was arrested a short time later after failing to stop at the scene, and bailed until November.

The incident caused a huge traffic jam as the one-way system outside Tottenham Hale Station was shut for four hours, with Broad Lane only fully re-opening at around 4pm.

Anyone with information should call police on 0208 597 4874. "

I rode past the scene about half an hour afterwards, the look on the Motorcycle Coppers face said it all even before I saw what had happened, we made eye contact and I swear to god the look on his face said "yes it's one of us, yes its bad"

The dead biker was still laying in the road with his feet sticking out of a red ambulance blanket that was covering his face.

This wasn't a teenage twat riding like an idiot or a mid life crisis-er ragging a Ninja post DAS, just some poor sod on his way to work through a particularly nasty junction.

For fuck sake lets be careful out there guys.

Death to taxi drivers Twisted Evil

Willson

...not that taxi drivers have anything to do with this... they're just accidents waiting to happen.

If we're talking London black cabbies, I rather like the cut of their jib. A somewhat 'jazz' interpretation of traffic rules, good knowledge of their vehicle and the gaps they can get it into, generally very observant with good reactions but a pushy sense of 'I am much more important than you' and like to get where they're going as quickly as possible.

Remind you of anyone?

I used to ride the Hale twice a day, and I always hated it. Absolutely no regard for road markings or anyone else on the road. The one part of my commute where I wouldn't filter for fear of becoming another statistic. Glad to be out of the area!

I ride through there twice a day, the shooting that triggered Saturdays' riots happened right in the middle of the junction, I rode through about half an hour afterwards, It's like the place is cursed. I expect Mondays ride to work will be interesting.

Last night, just before teaching the childrens' class at my Wood Green venue, one of my students, 13 years of age, said his aunty wanted to speak with me. She told me that his father was the victim of a fatal collision a couple of weeks ago whilst riding a motorbike. My heart just sunk. The young lad is putting on a brave face and is trying to quickly get on with normality. Naturally, I had a supportive word with him before class, but didn't want to say too much, and possibly highlight the tragedy, which could have brought tears.

Having met his father, I know him to be a very calm natured man. Apparently he was learning The Knowledge.

I just pray, that in some kind of way, I can be of support to the young lad and his family. Before he trains with me tomorrow, I'll be bringing a bunch of flowers to his home.

For those of you with faith in Jesus, please pray for the family, and for me to do and say what is appropriate for them.

Martin
