well my friend bought a triumph tt600 y plate about 2 months ago and all has been well until he broke the two plastic release fixings under the tank whilst taking it off. anyway he got the new clips on and the bike was running again this was TWO WEEKS ago now and has been riden everyday for work and to play on at weekends and nights ect so done some milage.

any way last night he came to my work so we could go for a play afterwards, so as i got my bike out to warm up his was on idle but kept cutting out then hed start it and it would idle at about 2000rpm then go down to 1100rpm then up down ect cutting out occationally.

next thing water gushes out off the bottom of bike like a split pipe so he got it near his house with no probs and as we sit at the lights water yes water starts pissing out his filler cap so as i opened his filler theres two holes breathers of some sort id imagine and water is shooting out one and is very hot like kettle water and his bike is boiling.

well we get his tank off and what he had connected to his tank were 4 hoses one fuel in and one out there ok no way they can be wrong but then there were 2 smaller ones, one which went to the overflow to his coolant chamber and one which just went to bottom of bike to vent into atmosphere.

well him being him said its been running funny since he fixed the broken clips so took the coolant hose off the tank and just left the other on there and theres no more water issues so far, but his bike is just not right for example when below 2000rpm when your riding very slow if you turn the throttle a tad just to set off from a junction for example it hesitates to rev and takes about a second or two like theres a delay its horrible to ride and s very jerky at low revs.

what im after is some info on the breather system to and from the tank iv looked for images and diagrames ect but no look,

sorry for the bad spelling grammer ect.adam.

Has he disturbed wiring, maybe blocked a breather or trapped an airway. pull off and refit breathers that may have split when disturbed, wires that may have come disconnected etc.

Possibly head gasket. Made more likely by having overheated.

Water will often fly out of an open filler cap as it can boil when not under pressure. With cap on the water has a higher boiling point due to the pressure.

Refill it, run it and see if the hoses get really hard, caused by cylinder compression leaking into the waterways.

If so you could get a gas test done but it is pretty much a done deal by then if pipes are pressurising and losing water etc.

Also check oil to see if there is any water or creaming, especially at the cap and in breather pipes

Their is a breather that comes of the radiator filler neck, don't think it has any others. You have to refill from the radiator filler, then use the bleed nipple on the side of the water pump to get rid of the air then finish filling using the expansion tank.

These bikes run hot, my speed four is always over 100c in traffic so you have to make sure you have enough coolant in there.

If the radiator cap is OK, the system has no air in it and its still spewing out water I'd suspect head gasket as well. May be worth taking it to a garage where they can test it quickly.

The TT600 has 4 connections on the bottom of the tank.

One red clip

One silver clip

These are your fuel hoses.

Then 2 black rubber ones at the back.

These are your overflow tubes.

the one attached to the overflow tank for the rad should NOT be attached to the fuel tank. that's your problem. looks like what he's done is attach it from the rad straight to the fuel tank. tell him this should attach to the expansion tank.

Second, the TT600 doesn't pull from under 4k revs. he's riding it wrong.

Is the ECU light on? the little orange one above the oil light?

If so, tell him to buy the cable off amazon.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/OBD2-OBD-II-Cable-409-1-Skoda/dp/B001C1MNTM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313613963&sr=8-1

with that, you can download 'tuneECU' which is basically what the garage uses to change fuel maps and the like.

It'll also tell him any problems the bikes having. it's how i diagnosed the misfire on mine.

And btw, my TT ran at near enough 100 degrees all the time.

HTH Thumbs Up

cheers dunc yes his light is on and to clear this up i know which two are fuel hoses but the two smaller ones are just breathers so should these just have pipe running towards the floor aswell as the long thin pipe on the expansion bottle ?

and i know what you mean about no power till 4k we swaped bikes other day mine an sv650 and i was used to the instant torque and it felt strang .

The two rubber ones are for overflowing fuel so it doesn't piss petrol on the hot engine. The pipe for the coolant goes nowhere near the fuel tank. It goes from just under the radiator filler cap to the expansion bottle under the left hand fairing. This is so that when the coolant heats up and expands, it can flow through rather than pressurising and popping the radiator or pipes. If you need a better explanation i'll draw you a picture when I get home from work haha.

Cheers
