Basically do police bikes possese APNR type equipment??
What happened was this morning on the old m60 i was in a temporary speed limit section doing 40 on the inside lane.
Anyways i see him comimg a mile away with all the colours ect.
He was in the third lane and all of a sudden shot over to the 1st lane right up my arse and im like FUCK FUCK FUCK!
Then he goes in for the kill moves into lane 2 and slowly moves further up (me thinking he is gona tell me to pull over) and just basically gives me a wave and a nod and carried on his marry way.
Eventuall caught upto him at j22 sliproad traffic lights so i gives him a nod and wave bakc just to test the waters even more.
i then just ride of with biggest smile on my face .
so if they do have ANPR equipment it would explain it.

Do they need ANPR? Just radio control and get a check.
Maybe he just tucked in behind you to see what you'd do....if you shot off like a rocket there's a good chance you're a ne'er do well with something to hide and the copper gets a high speed chase to stop the boredom |

im just one of those really innocent people but probably looks the guiltiest in the room and am just really paranoid when police are near and especially act abit odd like that

Depends on whether they are full time riders or part timers.
Full time riders do tend to be motorcyclists first and formost, but there are more part timers these days as it avoids the cost of having to do the full advanced course.
Part timers are what are called dual purpose, and they fill in or take a bike when there is a specific need and numbers are required.
As an example, there used to be 42 of us full time riders in my force, but we had about 100 part timers who would be drafted in to assist at events such as Henley, Royal Ascot, Silverstone GP.
Now, there are about 6 full time, and about 40 part time, most of whom have no interest in bikes, but do it because it looks good on their CV

Join the job
Do 2 years probation walking the beat and possibly driving Panda cars
Get experience of dealing with traffic specific incidents.
Apply for Traffic Department once probation completed, but usually around 5 years is the norm before they consider anyone.
Pass board, attend and pass advanced driving course.
Posted to Traffic as car driver
Do all courses such as traffic law course, vehicle examiners course, and, and and!!!!!
After 12 months, if vacancy comes up for Bikes, apply and start procedure all over again, accept this is now an internal selection rather than coming from an outside division.
Pass Bike course (most forces only offer standard course rather than the full advanced these days)
Pass bike course, and you are up and running.
I was one of the lucky ones as I was on Traffic within 6 months of passing my probation, and 2 years later a vacancy on the bikes came up, and apart from the fact that I got on very well with the base Inspector and the bike wing Sgt, I was the only guy on the base with a full bike licence, and so got offered the vacancy.
But this was back in the 70's and things were different then.
But the principal is still the same.

Slightly off-topic but reminds me of an experience I had in my Ford Explorer on the M25 one night.
Was about 2am, no traffic, I entered a single lane contra-flow with a 30mph limit, so I put the car on 30mph cruise, trundling along when this Police Subaru appear behind on the horizon and literally two seconds later he's tailgating me, blues & twos going.
I reckoned to be bullying me like that he was on a life or death shout.
Nowhere for me to go but forward....
The missus read my mind, glared at me and said 'DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE'
So, I kicked down to 1st, and we took off, by the time we weaved out of the contra-flow I was at 120mph, plod shot past me like I wasn't moving.
Perfect day really...
Got to do four times the (temporary) speed limit with plod behind and not get nicked...
AND utterly pissed off and scared the missus shitless.
Doesn't get much better than that.

Still Off Topic: How long does it actually take to get the first job? As I understand it now you have to be a volunteer officer or community one for a year or so then apply internally or something?

when they go right up behind me, which they do from time to time and im on a road with multiple lanes, i pull in to the next lane in front of a car leaving them no space behind me. i dont care who it is, i dont want anybody riding up close behind me unless we are on the race track, otherwise they can give me 2 seconds of space or ill make moves to block them out! |

mate applied three times passed all the tests interviews and such and then was told they were not taking on anymore
he works for the police as inteligence doing all the paperwork and stuff

Well things have changed a lot since I first joined.
I was a Cadet, so joined at Eighteen and a half, and many new recruits were taken from the Armed Forces.
I know that my old force is not recruiting per se, but in any case they prefer those who have served as Specials as they have had the opportunity to see the job first hand, which means they are unlikely to jack it in at the first sight of a dead body, and it probably works out cheaper to train them as they have already received substantial ongoing training and know a lot of the procedures.
The son of one of my neighbours recently joined as he wants to do the job first time, and he has been told to expect to have to wait at least 2 years before he is accepted.
Other forces may have different criteria, but it seems to be fairly universal at the moment.
