 Posted: 19:53 - 06 Sep 2011 Post subject: My aprilia rs 125 HELP!! |
 |
|
Hello, I have an aprilia rs 125 bought it a few days ago, running fine, then yesterday i was sat at traffic lights ready to go then it cut out and just completely lost power, It started again okay but it just keeps cutting out when I slowely release the clutch... Its a 2002 Aprilia RS 125 GP-01 FACTORY DERESTRICTED... Its done 4000 miles... I have changed spark plug three times using br10 eg and have checked fuel, cleaned air filter and fuel filter... I can get it going if I give it about 8,000 revs but then i look like a twat because its revving so high when i shouldn't be...
If anyone could help i would be really grateful... Will do anything to get her back on the road
Also when i lean her to the side the oil light comes on why does it do this?
Please help me!! ____________________ Ben |

As the bike has been stood for a long time then the jets in the carb probably need a good clean out due to having stale old petrol in them. It's an easy job, whip the carb off and clean the said items with petrol and compressed air.
Have you checked your 2 stroke oil level, usually it's low when the bikes leant over and it comes on, only top quality synthetic stuff for the RS.
I would run a compression test just to see what kind of condition the top end is in, I wouldn't expect it would need one after 4000 miles but you never know and could be causing issues with low end power. BTW you need to rev a 2 stroke 125 to pull off.....don't be scared ____________________ Current ride - Yamaha MT-07 |

He could of said your mistaken a bit ' nicer ', but your advice was OTT to say the least.
Service schedule gives the rebuild intervals, but better still, to use the engine compression readings to see if it's due new rings, which is around 5000 miles
As for the piston that should be good for 10000 miles est as i'm just going off mine which is highly strung italian 2T aswell.
Reading the ops post, sounds like he's not used to the revs needed in pulling off, and is stalling it ! but as no one else has said that i doubt it. ____________________ Jogging on, destination living.

Yes i'm aware of the above, as having bought a 2T from new, i've spent a lot a time learning what not to do.
Like don't buy an italian 2T if you want reliability, even from new ! lol
I have a tester on order as mines done 5500 KM.
The point Chris was making was your initial post just said 4000 rebuild needed soon, without stating what you have.
You first advice should of been to get a tester, as bike is new to him, as the psi No will tell him all of what you have said there or there abouts,
So in reality, theres a chance he could need an early rebuild but with facts known he could go another 4000 miles or more. Though perhaps rings needed in between.
