isopropyl alcohol alternative.

Well i'm going to brave replacing my rim tape tomorrow and want something to clean the sticky stuff off left over from my old rim tape. I've been told the best thing is isopropyl alcohol, problem is i can't get hold of any. Could i just use meths or something similar or will this damage the finish on my wheels?

Any PC repair shop should have some for sale. If you still can't get any, try the suggestions on the site below:

Depends on the finish. Try a chemist, ask for rubbing alcohol. Failing that, meths, white spirit, petrol or acetone based nail varnish remover - I used that on my GPZ, probably not the best choice but it was the closest to hand and didn't harm the finish.

WD40 works brilliantly for removing sticky gunk. Spray some on a cloth and then rub it on the gunk. If it doesnt remove it straight away, spray it directly onto the gunk and then rub. That should remove it all.

Then use water to get rid of the WD40 and dry it off.

Hmm WD40 is oil based so you'll then need an water based de-greaser to remove the WD40.
