Any big problems with a YAMAHA YZF 1000R THUNDERACE 1997?

30k miles, seems in really good nick.

Same engine as a fzr1000 exup?

I know the usuals to look out for, just wondering if anyone knows anything more specific.

Thanks BCF you are amazing. x

I thought they drank petrol and burnt oil like there was no tomorrow. I really wanted one until I heard that.

My custom title is due to my Thunderace, burn oil like there was no tomorrow got through 12 liters once when touring scottland for 5 days, (only had 26k on the clocks but is a know issue on alot of the earlyer pre 99 models).

Good bikes though bit lardy and thristy compaired to modern bikes but l did once get a indicated 185mph from mine on the M4 once, good sports tourer and cheap but make sure it does,nt spit oil out the exhaust when rev,ed hard.

Fantastic bikes if they are anything like their more feline cousin, pretty nippy, very comfy and uber reliable (that I have heard).

If you want to know some more, this is a very good resource and says that it's a lottery whether or not they burn oil but 1996 and 1997 models may be more likely to do so.

As for MPG, from owners I have been told around 35-40mpg at motorway crusing speeds and that can drop to around 20-25mpg once you start hitting 110-120mph and above, but that's to be expected I guess, their mpg isn't much worse than other bikes of the type to be fair.

Best of luck in finding one, they are nice bikes! :up!:
