hello just got me a cb125t 1982 i thought id buy 1 and doit up for sumit to do already its driving me crazy.

the engine sort of backfires sometimes but thats it i have good spark good compression good fuel.

so im thinking maybe ignition timing as it looks like somebody has been in the points cover lately as screws where loose ,

anyway on the points plate there is a line does this have to alighn up with line on casing, also says left and right, bith points look good,

is it possible that somebody put points cam on wrong way round making it totaly wrong?

well if anyone has an idea please help, as i havent a manual yet its on its way might help lol might not.

The marks do line up with the casing, left is no.1 cylinder right is no2 cylinder.
Put the left piston to TDC and line up the two marks, then line up the right hand piston and line up the other marks and you should be running. Take your time doing this.
Good luck mate.

Well, miracles may yet happen, as Duke Nukem Forever was finally released too.

Helmet cam won't do though, it needs to be a true 100mph verified by an independent 3rd party. Not "My mate Daz following in his Corsa".

I had a problem with my CB550 a few years ago.The engine would not run.The points gap was correct but it just would not run.In the end I installed some new OEM points onto the backplate. The bike started and ran better than ever before.

Effectively, the teflon heel on the points had worn.Just how it affected the operation was strange as when I reinstalled the worn points and gapped them it would not allow the engine to run properly.Once the newer points were reinstalled it ran like a dream.

So,my thoughts are, would it be worth trying a new set of points if all else has failed.

Also, measure the resistance of the plug caps.If they are a LOT more than between 5-10 thousand ohms then they should be replaced.
