Riding in torrential rain...

So i just went for a ride to see my nearest mod1 test centre, then came home. Started lightly raining on the way home, then 5 mins later ive got home and my bike is in the garage, it starts pissing it down monsoon style. Followed by hail, thunder and lightening. Roads turned to rivers in 5 minutes...

Lucky escape this time, but if i do ever get caught out, what do i do, just ride through it? Or do people seek nearest shelter?

Just a bit worried because my bike has no fairings so all wiring is either under the tank or just round the sides of the bike around the handlebar area. I have a HID kit fitted and heated grips, and its impossible to shelter some of these wires.
Am i just worrying over nothing?

If there's any chance of rain, I keep a set of waterproofs in my panniers. Riding in the rain when you're dry is quite fun; doing it when you're soaked down to your underwear isn't so much.

Other than that, take it easy to start with (especially on corners) and remember the first 15 minutes are the worst; after that most of the crap have been washed off the road.

Try a scooter, when the flood water's about a foot deep my Vity starts to float due to the footboards, aqua-wheeling it the best way to describe it.

Shouldn't affect the wiring if it's been done properly. If it does, WD40 will fix it.

Biggest problem is seeing where you're going.

as far as riding in the rain goes, as long as you're not riding on road legal slicks then you'll be fine. its not pleasant but as long as you're smooth and keep your visor clean/not scratched you'll be fine (as silly as the above is, you do need to keep your visor in good nick so it doesnt fog up, etc.. a dirty scratched visor is a nightmare for it.

also good tip mentioned above, keep some waterproofs with you.

this time of year i ride in my textiles which are waterproof anyway but when not i normally keep my waterproof oversuit under the seat.

just got in from riding home after work, and I gotta say it was the most nervous ride ever, even more than when I first got my bike and had to ride 60 miles home after just doing CBT.
I have a rubber visor wipe on my left index finger but that didn't help at all, I was doing about 45 on a NSL road because I could barely see the kerb, in the end I just ended up riding with my visor half up and the wind and rain in my eyes, at least I could see.

Seriously, what's the visor advice in these conditions? And no im not getting one of them spinning visors lol

the Turbo Visor looks like an idea stolen from the windows of sea going boats!!!

I use an insert on my visor and find its very good at keeping it fog free, (works like double glazing) then just wipe the outside with the side of my finer when needed, on NSL roads tipping the head forwards whilst riding makes the wind push the rain down pretty quick too, so no need to wipe so often.

other than that just be extra careful, dont take the pish when braking and cornering!

I hit the rain too a couple of hours ago.
I was out on my bike and i could see the lightening but didnt know how far it was.
Next thing i know, hail, thunder, torrential rain...
I just kept going, aquaplaned most of the route home.
Dont suppose you are in the humberside/lincolnshire area also are you?

I'm odd - I prefer riding in the rain than in the dry. Less bikers around to get in my way and it's more of a challenge....makes things interesting when theres diesel all over the roundabouts.

Riding at night in torrential rain is awesome. You can barely see, you are soaked to the bone and it is AWESOME. Just something about being out there alone with your bike that is somehow still working and the noise of the rain and the feeling of it all.
