Steve just shows what nice people GSXR riders are all bikers tend to have time for people in my experience what ever they ride.
Simply don't waste your money on a 50, save it for your test and a bigger better bike. ____________________ As I said to that guy with the crutches and full camouflage gear, you can hide but you can't run. |

As far as I know there has never been an NSR50 (or 80) so am not really sure what those are.
You'll be able to pick up for a few hundred an old geared unfaired 50cc bike which will do 50mph, you can spend more and get a little bit more speed but 50cc's are not fast so it's really not worth spending the money on a 55mph 50cc unless you've got the money to waste. And it isn't worh getting one with a fairing as the bike will get dropped and the fairing will cost lots to repair and you'll lose lots when selling it, so again not worth it unless you've got the money to waste (as you won't get anything near to what you pay for it when you come to sell it).
I'm sure you could fit a smaller engine to a 125 if you really want to, but will cost stupid amounts of money and it will be quite obvious to anyone that the bike has a 125 engine in it so save your money on the insurance, just print yourself a cover note out of Word as it will be just as much use (can be used in producers but no more valid or likely to get a pay out than a policy which you pay £££ for). He didn't phone the DVLA up, you have to fill out paperwork so if he is saying it was done over the phone I'd take everything he says about it with slight mis-trust.
Best bet, have a look at Ad Trader and pick up a cheap geared unfaired 50cc, use it, when you're 17 get a 125 then do your test. You can always get a RS50 type bike or a 125 and change it to a 50cc engine but this will all cost stupid amounts of money so only do it if you've got the money to throw away (as you'll never get close to what you have to spend back). |

Yeah, something like the DT, RD, AR or TS is the sort of thing.
Once you're 17 you can do your A2 test (restricted access) which entitles you to ride any bike and it has to be restricted to under 33bhp for the first two years after you do your test, and after the two years have passed you can legally ride any sized bike of any power. You don't have to even sit on a 125 other than to do your test, most people do move up and get one and use it for a bit before doing your test, but there isn't any reason really why you can learn everything on the 50cc (general road sense, emergency stop, U turn and general test riding) and when you're 17 do a course with a training school where they get you up to standard on a 125 and then do your test (a couple of days, just like a DAS course but different bike and test) and then go straight into having a 33bhp bike and missing the whole 125 bit out. Goose on here did that, he went from an SR50 ped, did some intensive training and then did his test and then got a CBR250 and had no problems so it is worth considering.  |

You are probably thinking of the Kawasaki AR50 which would take an 80 or 125 top-end. There used to be a roaring trade in bolting C50 side panels to C70s at one point too.
Do not buy a bike that has has this done, chances are the work was carried out by an inexpert 16 year old and will cause you no-end of headaches. Add to this the fact that if you have an accident and the bizzies start sniffing about, you have just copped a ban for riding outwith the limits of your licence and without insurance (which would be invalid) ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink.
