 |
|
I've had to sell my bike for financial reasons so in a month or so I will be looking for another bike. I'm looking for another V Twin but something that doesn't need a lot of care/money thrown at it so to speak. My Monsters haven't cost me more than any other bike to look after it's just if something goes wrong now I won't be able to afford fixing it.
3k is my limit and the bike I would love is a 749 but I don't think it's the right thing to do in my current situation, again why I sold the Monster. So I'm looking for alternatives and at the moment all I can think of is the VTR Firestorm (old one) or SV 1000, I've thought about the RSV/Tuono but I'm not sure. Also if there are any IL4 that have similar characteristics to a Twin then feel free to recommend ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

Does it have to be italian?
Suzuki TL1000? Great engines! (admittidly put to better uses in Italian chassis )
Would say a Tornado, but they are going up now in value.
Errrr, Twin for a £3k? what about an early Aprillia Mille? Still great bikes!! |

Another great little bike!!!
Feels faster than it is (thats a good thing). Good up to a 100mph odd, good little chassis, plenty of "mods" if you want to do them.
Can pick up a good one for £2-£2.5k.
Hard question is...
Cool Curvey, or Pucka Pointy?
And Lilredmachine, new style R1 for £3k yeah........? |

By the characteristics thing I meant in terms of the way there is enough torque wherever you are in the revs which is good for point and squirt overtaking whereas an IL4 600 needs a little winding up before it gets into armagedon mode
Daimo I said non Italian but any suggestions welcome ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

My money would proably be going on a Firestorm and spend a little on getting the suspension sorted out from it's bouncy state. ____________________ My Flickr |

Explain G!
From what I can see the CBR has the best mid range and Ducati the least but what is the white line?
On the Falco/RSV thing I still think it will be to tall/heavy for me ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

The white line is where the Ducati was, when it was presented on a RPM for RPM basis.
On that basis people would say "oh, but the twin has more midrange, anyone can see that", as was suggested.
However, when you consider that it's basically like saying "the twin has more midrange in first than the four has in second", it's actually not so accurate.
If you expand the twin's graph so that it stops at the same point and is thus representative of a gear with the same top speed, the four cylinder has more midrange.
The following is a Thrust graph (which Keith is fond of) for some of this year's top runners.
https://image.sportrider.com/f/33788284/146-1107-27-z+2011-literbike-comparison-test+thrust.jpg
The Ducati has masses more thrust in first gear.
But, in second gear, the BMW's first gear almost matches it for speed, but manages a load more thrust. The Kawasaki's first matches the Ducati's second from around a third revs and actually is a faster gear too! |

OK that is all cool and technical but I am just a little road rider and all I go by is what I can feel!
Now G which is better for me going by the above a litre twin or 4?
Also been searching around and the Firestorm is cheap to buy and wait for it......cost £40 a month to insure! For me that's fecking awesome
Were there any FI 'Storms or were they all carbed? ____________________ Bikes : 2006 CBR125R - 2004 Monster 620ie - 2004 ZX-6R B1H - 2005 Monster S2R 800 - 2011 Street Triple - 2009 Streetfighter 1098 - 2014 ZX-6R 636

I've got a TLR and love it, and found it completely reliable in the 2 years and ~10,000 miles I've had it (it's now on about 32k miles). I've only needed to change the oil, chain, sprocket and the clutch (which turned out not to need replacing anyway!).
Loads of torque, sounds great, reliable, looks great, ~130bhp, you can fit 20x as much stuff in the storage as most other sports bikes and I'm getting 50mpg, which is better than all my mate's bikes!
I haven't ridden many other litre bikes, but the only downsides to the TLR IMO are a heavy clutch, it weighs a bit, and you have to put more effort into flicking into a corner than some other bikes. Having said that, I've done a CSS day on it and [brag mode] won the star pupil prize (level1) [/brag mode] on it, despite it being less nimble than other bikes. ____________________ 1999 GSX-R 600, 1999 TL1000R |

Might just about be able to push for a super duke with that money... Although I think the early ones are a little bit uncivilised but I doubt the newer ones are exactly well behaved ____________________ Bikes Past: Yamaha Aerox (sold) Yamaha R125 (written off)
