 |
|
Well, tonight my brother in law sent me this link... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OL75zBfDOao It's a Lynx 'final edition'advertisment heralding the end of the world. In order to make this as painless as possible the main protagonist (man with a can of lynx) first builds a wooden arc, then sprays himself with lynx. All the pretty girls in the land then are drawn to the arc and happy end of the world is both said out loud by the narrator and put in words on the screen. (I have described the ad in case people looking at work don't have access to youtube)
Anyway, my first question is 'does anyone else find this a bit odd?'
I am an open minded person when it comes to discussion of the 'shift', 2012, conspiracies, ufos and well anything interesting that isn't usually accepted by the mainstream media. I don't just take on the ideas of the most recent thing I've seen but like to research the opinion and facts for myself - as much as they can be researched in topics such as this.
What's got me going on this occassion is that the mainstream media seems to be preparing us in some way for a change - but I can't quite put my finger on what exactly they are trying to acheive or why. I first noticed it with the series Ancient Aliens. Think what you will about the program itself, but the fact is that it is :extremely well funded, has now aired for three seasons on the History channel and seems to be able to get all the university experts it desires (with a fair share of nutters thrown in for good measure of course) The last few episodes in season 3 have slightly shifted in their angle. Before they were just talking about the old evidence but now they mention at least once a program the possibility of 'them' returning.
I'm not quite sure where I'm going with all this but wanted to see what if anything you have to say about the ad, ancient aliens or the subject of 2012 for that matter...

They are just scared as they know it isn't a high possibility of anything happening on that day in December 2012. However they post that just encase something does happen so they can say yeah we warned you or some bull crap like that.
This is just like when the scientists predicted that global warming is going to kill the planet and bring so much destruction in the next 50 years. Around that time sky started doing "how to survive ... ?" a random program on how to survive, flooding, extreme heat and even if the uk became a massive desert.
Last ones I sore on the history channel a few weeks ago were the old race basically they had proof of aliens/ufo visiting when humans were in the basic years, also created the stone shrines that are found all over the world. ____________________ CB125>CG125>GN125>ER5>K100RS>R1100RS>K100RS

If the world was about to end, going out and buying a special edition can of Lynx deodorant is somewhere at the bottom of the list of things I'd want to do!
If you look at the media, you've got movies such as 2012 to contend with (which I refused to watch), and TV programmes such as An Idiot Abroad where Karl Pilkington completes his "bucket list". Personally I don't think it's more than a theme.
As far as I know what they're basing it on is Mayan prophecies, and the fact that their calendar doesn't seem to extend beyond 2012. If it happens, it happens, we can't change it. But we've survived this far, beyond the likes of Nostradamus' prophecies! He gave several dates on which the world was to end (just in case one didn't work, I suppose), and has failed on them all.
So to all, God speed! |

They should just advertise it as the smell of the gym. The only scent that enables you to look at a guy towelling off his cock without catching the gay. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

I reckon you're probably right - I don't have a tv so I have forgotten about many of their other campaigns. However this one just seemed a little bit closer to the bone than some for me..

I agree with you on the eye catching ad thing and to be fair what kind of power do lynx really have in terms of the global scheme of things?
Ancient aliens on the other hand.... I personally think it's interesting. Not the over the top, sensationalist, hypothetical aspects of it, but the evidence that they are presenting to such a wide audience, the stuff actually set in stone, art and architecture is pretty amazing. A lot of these things haven't really been given the time of day before and yet they exist like annoying thorns in the sides of historians that try to ignore the evidence that's actually there.
| AnPhonEh wrote: | That being said, contrary to the advert, I've not met many women who actually like the smell of Lynx.

You're right there - can't stand the stuff!

That's pretty much right although over here we are mistaken on one crucial aspect of this and this is the bit that the media sensationalise- (don't get me started on films like 2012, which I also refused to watch!).
The Maya don't actually think the world is going to end at the end of 2012, the Mayan calendar is very complex and is series of interacting cycles based on 13 numbers, 20 day signs and a few extra things. These were carved into things that looked like wheels and turned with respect to one another like cogs. The length of time it takes for the full long count cycle to reset back to the beginning is about 13000 years (give or take a few) There are other times that parts of the cycle reset, like every 52 years but the big one is the 13000 cycle. At this point it's just like clicking a counter on from 99999 and it all going back to 000000.
According to them, the last time this happend there were some big earth changes but well they survived at least because some remember it in their ancestry - (we would have had written records of this if the spanish hadn't so unceremoniously destroyed everything except 5 of their books).
So yeah, not the end of the world as such, but a change, a breath of fresh air, a new beginning ____________________ 1979 Suzuki GP100

Lynx just seen a money making op and went for it thats all. Harold Camping did to. So the date is now 21 Dec when nothing happened again on 21st Oct. I wish something would come and take away the crazy Christians with stupid car stickers that actually believe all this. The world would be a better place. ____________________ All the breast.

Missed this..
But as much as I'm not one to be 'in' with the 2012 stuff, since there's abolsutely no scientific proof back it; I would like to ask and hear from ANYONE that can provide me undoutbed proof aliens don't exist.
Why would they write about it all over history if it didn't happen? I don't recall record keepers from ancient Egypt and the like telling too many porkies....
Space is so far unmapped beyond our own solar system; we simply cannot mark anywhere as 'off the map' for being lifeless. So it's fair to assume there is, no?
My gosh, we haven't chartered/explored our own deepest oceans yet (take Loch Ness for example; a mere large lake) and 'scientists' want to write off the possibly that we're alone in the universe? and space?? Pull the other fuckin one. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. I don't think they are writing off us being alone in the Universe, just the idea that other civilisations are contactable. |

I think the only way you could assume that we are the only life in the universe is if you believe in God. If you believe that God gave us special attention and created us on this planet, and all the animals, trees, plants, etc, and he has a vested interest in our survival/living.
Space is a vast vast place with more planets than we could comprehend. It's highly unlikely that there isn't life out there, but we're never going to reach it. It's also probable that life existed before us, ended before us - not just simultaneously existing with us.
If you accept the universe for what it is - you have to accept that we are not alone. Does that mean we will ever meet non-earth lifeforms? Nope. I don't think the technology to travel those distances will ever be possible - by us, or anything else. ____________________ Ted : "Maybe he's agoraphobic."
