My bike was parked out side my house, and a car came round the corner, lost control and ploughed into my bike and my car. Car has lots of damage, but I think the bike (front wheel) got hit by his bumper also, as bike has moved.

The front handlebars (top yolk) is not sitting dead straight now, and is slightly off to the right. Paddy has suggested that I undo the 3 bolts holding each fork in the yolk and triple clamp, and then using a wall try moving handlebars, to allow the forks to rotate slightly, and hopefully come back in alignment.

Is there anything else I can check? I am hoping that the forks have only twisted and are not bent. :o(

To top it all off, the car who hit bike and my car, reversed and then sped off without stopping.

Police are checking all the CCTV at the moment, and I should get a call today about if they caught the toe rag. If I every catch up with him, I kick the crap out of the shithead.

Pissed off bigtime, as I use the big everyday to commute on. I rode it in today, but it does feel weird (fighting me, when leaning to the right to corner), but it doesnt shake or vibrate, so I am assuming its only slight damage.

Thanks Paddy BTW for your advice on this.

Thumbs Up

Sorry to hear this. Karma for only caring about the bike. Very Happy

I wouldn't get your hopes up. There's a long chain of ifs in there before you get enough evidence to even make an insurance claim, let alone get a prosecution.

However, you can try claiming under the MIB Untraced Drivers Agreement. Just document it out the wazoo and make sure you've got a crime number from Plod.

No worries, just doing what I was told to do with my CBR after it took a slide Laughing

I'll keep an eye out for the car in town, see most cars fly past my window, Police should be able to see on the town centre cameras if he went "down" your road. If he came passed mine there are 2 cameras watching the road.

If they dont catch him they are being lazy.

Do I have to pay anything for this MIB Untraced Drivers claim, or just complete and wait to hear ?!

Thanks RogerBorg... never knew this existed.

I like to use 'lazy' when thinking of police 'action'.

But I know the force DO NOT put enough revenue/resources into car crime.
The beast of this factor is that they make so much from fixed penalty fines (or should do).
Coupled with the issue of lack of 'joined up thinking' within our police forces.
I think they give a warrant card and uniform to anyone willing now-a-days.

Anyhow, I think the best thing it to get the bike sorted.
If you are unsure then get it to a bike garage and ask them to check out the alignment.
There could be frame, fork or wheel damage. You could maybe get away with running around on it as is but you really need to, at least, check nothing is fractured and waiting to fail.

There are a few self help things to check frame alignment if you have a flat space to work on and a long-enough bit of string. (How long is a bit of string?)

I have had cars broken into causing much inconvenience for repair and insurance etc. It is not so bad once/if you get over it.
See if you can find a safe place to park the bike.
I look at how easy somedumbfuk can hit my bike/car when I choose a parking spot whenever I can.

Remember, most people who drive are stupid. (I think)

If after following Paddy's advice, if it still doesn't feel right remove the forks and roll them on a flat surface, any slight bend will show up. Are the handlebars ok?, he may of bent those a bit as well.

Oh, cock, sorry, I've just read the MIB claim form:

MIB parasites wrote:
Accidents involving an untraced driver

Not payable when it is not possible to identify the offending vehicle. May be subject to an excess of £300

What the chuff is the point of that then? If you can identify the vehicle then it would become an issue of there being an insurance policy covering it or not. Mad

Bah, I guess you're back to chasing up Plod for the CCTV. You will want to keep hassling them, including filing a complaint if they don't find it. Make it easier for them to do their jobs than fill in the forms explaining why they haven't bothered.

I have some long straight square bars that I use for checking wheel alignment.
Check also that the lock stops have not been mashed up.
Does the steering lock key still work okay or do you need to move the steering around to set the lock?
