Someone please give me a sensible reason not to buy a helmet cam!

I keep looking at this DogCam bullet camera but I've got bills to pay soon and I only want it as a toy.

Reason not to buy? It's not going to be anywhere near as good as a contour or gopro and you are gonna wish you spent the extra.

If you need the toy, buy a sub £10 MD80 off eBay as a lot of us have off eBay. Another reason? You use it once then realise you CBA to rig it up everytime you go out.

Ok. A reason or two not to buy.

1. You'll use it about twice.
2. You'll quickly realise that it doesn't have enough battery power or storage memory to cope with your ride outs and you'll be forever stopping and starting the damn thing at points you feel worthy of capture.
3. The footage you record will all look the same.
4. The footage you record will never be shared upon the interweb for fear of being done for speeding.
5. It promotes faster riding with more risks because you gotta get that footage you'll never be able to show off on the interweb.
6. Its 100 quid you'd be better off putting aside for something more useable or a trip away.

Reason to buy a bike cam.

1. Trackdays. We can all watch the awesomeness together.

Have you seen the example clip at the bottom of the ad, if you switch the quality to 720p and pause it I don't think the quality's all that great, there's like a ghosting effect everything looks a little blurry, you'd sort of expect that but not when he's trundling around town doing low speed.

Is that the best you can get for 90 notes?

Another reason, dogcamsport sell a load of shite.
If you do track days buy one anything else, don't bother.

I spent £350 on a bullet cam setup from dogcamsport, used it twice and the quality was shite. Managed to get half my money back when I sold it on.

Don't bother with it when you can get one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drift-HD170-Stealth-Action-Camera/dp/B004L5AF4Q

£123 and it's much better! There was a thread on helmet cams the other day, even the GoPro is down to £150 I think.

Got a few videos on my YT channel if you want to see raw video/sound quality.

(No I am not a Drift salesman Laughing )

What you need is "fps" not resolution.
a 120fps 480p camera gives better quality pictures than a 30fps 720p camera.

BBC One on freeview is 576p. This would give you the idea.

Would use a camera for motox be fun to see the jumps back plus would only be few times a year so would be worth it, but couldn't be arsed to use it on my road bike too much footage all similar.

Agree with all the above!

I had an itch for a cam, so i bought the £11 delivered MD80 clone off of ebay. The quality isnt great, but for £11 you cant complain! I wouldnt spend £100 on a cam that was marginally better. If your buying for trackdays, get a GoPro, if your buying to record road riding, you WILL get bored of it after a couple of rides, so get the £11 ebay special!

Thank goodness some people have more common sense than me, I'm glad I asked first! Smile

I think I'll get one of those super-cheap little DV cameras first and then if I like it I'll buy a Go-Pro or a Drift (I've got that one bookmarked) later for Summertime.

£7? Can't get cheaper than that and the picture actually looks half decent, at least in full daylight. I just bought an AEE MD80 + Micro SD card on Ebay for £15, it's probably the same as yours.

All much the same. I have a MD80 clone but the one I mentioned was like THIS.

Much easier to mount on the bike with just two bits of velcro.

I also have an MD80 clone.

It's ok, tend to duct tape it to the mirror stems or velcro it to my lid.

Have a few 20minute videos of the ground, one five minute video of my brother going around a roundabout and a few shots testing the noise activation by spying on prospective tenants looking around my uni room. A better cam would have had the same amount of use, but cost more.

I have got my £10 out of it, just...

If you're going to waste money, waste a decent amount of money on a GoPro HD Hero Razz You'll barely regret it.

That's tiny! And just a little bit suspicious. Eh?
Now why would you be carrying around a tiny little spy camera on a key chain? Thinking

No I'm fully employed - unless something happened while I've been away at Xmas I don't know about.
