Who can tell me how the big couriers, DHL, UPS, Fedex etc. operate.
If I order something from say the UK, the package, eventually arrives in Cyprus, however none of these companies will deliver to the door. The modus operandi here is, they ring you and tell you to come to the depot to collect your parcel.
It’s not as if I’m a huge distance away from the depot, 12 miles to be precise.
Is this normal procedure or is the whole of Cyprus being right royally ripped off?
A quick Google would suggest that the major couriers are franchised, which confirms my suspicion that local, lazy arsed, couriers are subcontracted to make deliveries but CBA and are making a small fortune by ringing around and getting people to collect their own packages.
Are these franchises breaking their terms and conditions by not delivering to the door?
More importantly, am I being ripped off? ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

Unfortunately, their contract is with the sender, not you. They can happily ignore you, since you're not the one that they'd have to refund if they failed to complete the contract. Get the sender to chase them up. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

That's not really what I'm talking about.
In Limassol there are the usual courier company offices, DHL, Fedex, UPS etc.
As far as I can tell the only way of getting your package, is to visit the appropriate office, they simply do not put parcels into vans and go out delivering them.
Assuming that the DHL, Fedex, UPS offices are franchised, surely there are rules that the parent company insists on them following.
I would have thought that one off main duties of a courier was to actually deliver the item.
I find it difficult to believe that a global brand name allows their name to be used for such a shabby service.
What's the point of a courier that doesn't actually deliver anything?
Just wondered if anyone can shed some light on this. ____________________ "Everybody needs money, that's why they call it money!" |

I have some experience with this, essentially the fulfilment can be handled by a different entity once it crosses international borders. All is specified in the T&Cs so if that's the standard for Cyprus then that's what you get...
Why do I know this? I am part of a start-up delivery company www.bypost.com that brokers parcel companies to collect from your door and deliver wherever you want. So, if you ever need anything delivered then go there It's cheaper than the prices you can get as an individual and you still get a big name courier doing the delivery. ____________________ current: ducati monster 750

I understand exactly what you're saying, but their contract to deliver to your door isn't with you, so you'll have to get the sender to ask why they're welching. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Not quite correct. The contract is deemed to be between the sender, the recipient and the courier company. |
How can the recipient be a party to a contract of which they may have no knowledge, let alone an opportunity to agree to? Engage brain, then fingers. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
