 |

As most know, I'm looking [soon] to sell my R6. Unfortunately though I dropped it on a roundabout at slow speed and put a few scratches on the fairing panels, nothing deep or serious but obviously it's not mint any more
I still want to sell it, I want something much cheaper and more suitable for what I use the bike for, which now, is only commuting and long distance - and the odd "fun" rideout of course
The R6 is not really suited to that and will just deprecieate in value if ridden purely for commuting etc. It's just not worth the ££ when that ££ can be spent on a nice shiney KTM 520 supermoto
Anyway, I'm not sure what to do now, it's almost winter possibly the worst time to sell a bike
Should I sort out the fairings so the bike is mint again and sell it for the £4250 I wanted, or should I fix a couple of things then sell it for what I can get (£3800 ?)
I'm seeing earlier R6's up for sale at the minute for £3500 and mine is mint apart from a few scratches so no way I'm losing too much money on it, I'll leave it till next summer if I really have to
So, hint tips and ideas people?
Anyone got some excellent condition cheap R6 fairings for RHS?
Not sure what to do yet but I want to get it sold, new bike bought and new supermoto sorted
To get it mint again I would need to replace the right side mirror, indicator, bar ends, lower fairing, mid fairing and there's a small bit of scuffs to the top fairing too. Would it be worthwhile spending out to get it fixed or just accept some loss on the bike instead ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

See how much you can get for it as it is. If fixing up will cost less than the increase in it's value then fix it up (I very much doubt thig though) as it makes sense to do so financially.
You can you don't want to get a 'Storm because people take the piss out of the tank range, who cares if people take the piss, if it does the job you need and is the best bike you feel for what you need it for then go for it.
I would be reluctant to get a shiney KTM supermoto as you are already suffering the costs of getting a shiney bike and using it and it hitting the tarmac, unless you plan to not be ever stunting on it (which seems to be the main use for your WR so I expect it would be the same for your shiney new KTM) and it will just be used as a general purpose A to B bike I wouldn't think of buying a shiney bike as you will just suffer biug financially costs when it gets damaged through use.
The R6 does what you need it to, it does the same job as a Thunercat or 'Storm, but you've already got the R6 setup the way you want it, and the cost of it being dropped has already been paid and if you get another shiney bike you're leaving yourself open to pay it again.

Sell the R6 and WR now, as they are. Then buy a cheap Bandit 6, your shiny KTM and a cheap CR500 and make it road legal. Then you can tart about on the KTM and fuck about on the CR. And pootle on the Bandito ____________________ A big enough hammer fixes anything! |

Is it worth doing up the bike? Will you get the money back you spend on it, maybe some extra?
e.g. You could sell it for 3,800 now, but how much would it cost to make it mint, and how much will it be worth after it has been made mint? If you can fix it up and make some money (compared to what you would have spent), or break even on the process then do it that way. It will be easier to sell a mint bike, than a crash damaged one.
If not sell it as cosmetic damage, make an atractive price, and it will go.
Hope you understood
P.s. i recently did up a ped, and consequently will get much more for it. Sometimes a bit of effort can pay off. |

Pho/Ste; yes I agree with you both, the reason I looked to them was due to them being quite cheap but still nice bikes, you are both right though the fuel range is definetly stupid in considering what I want out of a bike now. I have been speaking to danny (thanks) and the Cat' seems to be the way forward, they are VERY cheap for what your getting from them. I will try and get a go on one some time and see what I think.
Ste, the KTM shineyness isn't quite as it seems, plastics for these bikes are unbelievably cheap, you can replace all the plastics (except tank) for new stuff for around £100 or so! My reasons for wanting the KTM are not for tart purposes, the supermoto doesn't do tarting, it's covered in mud most the time but my main reason is getting the KTM in PROPER supermoto trim with proper wheels, brakes and so on would actually work out cheaper than converting my WR. I didn't realise it would cost so much to convert my WR! And for that, a lesson learnt but I haven't lost anything so I'm not bothered, learnt lots and had fun too Have to stop riding it to work as going to get arrested soon
Also, claud/ste I won't make money on this bike at all ever, not unless a dumb person comes along, I paid too much for the bike in the first place so won't make any thing on it. I was hoping to get £4250 for the bike in standard trim, I consider the money it's cost me over summer a good price for the fun I've had but replacing the fairings/respray will cost a lot so not sure if I just stick it on ebay for £3800 and pray someone buys it? That would be the best way, £3800 is still expensive though for a bike with scratches but as I've said, I'm reluctant to let it go cheaper as it IS only a few scratches! I think for one thing, people will agree the bike is in good nick and well looked after!

As sorry, misunderstood you. I thought you were saying "yes it's shiney but it'll only be £100 if I damage the fairings" meaning it is still shiney like the R6 but cheaper. Didn't know about the WR fairings, and it working out cheaper than putting the WR into full supermoto spec then it would seem a good idea. |
