hi guys, I'm planning to take a full inclusive course soon which includes all test fees, and when i pass my full test will I have to contact insurance and pay a fee to tell them I've passed? (which is stupid as I'm effectively proving I'm a safer rider, daylight robbery insurance is) After I've passed I'm thinking of buying a Bandit 650s, which is about £750 TPFT with a years no claims, but is it worth staying on the YBR until august so I have a no claims bonus or upgrade my current policy to the Bandit?
Has anybody else done this and have any suggestions?
Cheers

As far as I'm aware, you don't need to tell them you've passed.

I passed in August, sticking with 125 for 1years ncb and then getting a bigger bike. They may chage you a lot to change bike on your policy - bigger bike, more power/speed = more risk?

Yes you need to tell them you have passed, it would probably be cheaper to get a new policy them upgrade your 125 policy.

I passed my test last August and rang the my insurance company from outside the test center. They didn't charge me anything, just changed my details on their database. However I have heard of insurance companies charging a fee too. I think it just depends who you are with.

If I were you I'd take your tests and get the bandit. I've waited months to get a years NCB but I don't think it's been worth it really. It's saved me a lot of money but you will be riding in the summer on a YBR 125 instead of a Bandit 650. And I bet all the time you'll be wishing you were on a bigger bike. With me, I've only been riding through winter on my CG so I've not been too bothered, but had I passed my tests 6 months earlier like you are planning to, I would have been itching to get on a bigger bike to take full advantage of the summer.

If you can afford it, do it now. Especially with the test changes coming up next year.

I'm determined to pass before January next year before all the new changes, and i don't mind paying £100-£200 to upgrade my insurance, so long as its for a couple of months, but if its more id rather save the money to spend on the bike and stick with the 125 a little longer, it'd be nice to have the opportunity to take a little tour in the summer on a Bandit though... There is no single correct answer, it entirely depends on your insurer and your situation. Sorry, but you're going to have to find out yourself.
