https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/9486915.Cyclist_killed_in_A19_crash_near_Wolviston/

My dad told me about this when he got in from work and then I saw it on the news earlier.
His work mates had around 2 hour delays while on the A19 because of it, pretty crazy to be cycling down it, let alone the A19.
From which my dad says is still not nice to go down in a car never mind a bicycle.

RIP Mr Cyclist

But yep it's crazy cycling down the A19. I use it daily and its bad enough doing it on a 125 especially when windy, never mind just on a cycle.

If I'm going to be picky this section is called 'General Bike Chat' which doesn't mention 'moto bicycles' as you so like to call them.
But in all honesty I just thought people might like to know.

If you could point me to evidence of this it would be much appreciated to alleviate such controversies in the future, thank you. Smile

Look at it like this : it re-inforces what we already know in that cagers care nothing for two wheels regardless of pedals or engine.

And it might just give you a wake up call to be that little bit more vigilant when in amongst the cagers.
That can`t be a bad thing surely?

I call upon members of BCF to describe in a language as rich and as vividly as their vocabulary allows; their opinions of the members of exhibit a. M'Lord:

The thread has been moved to Random Banter*; this is reasonable evidence that it is in fact not suitable and that 'General Bike Chat' is for motorbikes.
Wink

*On consideration, Found on the 'Net might have been better, but I won't put it through the indignity of a double move.

It is an A road not a Motorway. It is NOT the cyclist who is at fault it is the truck driver.
Like pedestrians and horse riders should GTF off the roads so we can fly around like arseholes on motorbikes???

It's not the easiest road to cycle on but one should still be allowed to ride a bike on it.

I hope the truck driver goes to jail for murdering the cyclist.

We always bleat about Bikers Rights what about other road users rights?

Do we know that?
Haven't seen enough information to make any conclusions.

I'm not suggesting it was the cyclist's fault - just that they were exposing themselves to massive risk by riding down the A19 - a dual carriageway road, with a 70 mph limit and heavy traffic. There is no fooking way I would cycle down that road, it is busy and fast.

I have cycled on a similar stretch of road when I worked in Kent on an away job, but that was much less busy, and punctuated by several roundabouts, so people were a bit more aware of hat as going on, rather than being in a bit of a trance. Plus speed was on balance a bit lower. I still felt incredibly vulnerable, one slight error from me or a driver and it would be goodnight Vienna.

I only did it twice before I found an alternative route to get some exercise.

So, perhaps it was not the cyclist's fault he was splattered by a truck, but they showed a remarkable disregard to the risk of their actions to take a pushie out on the A19.

And, as is often said on here "it doesn't matter if it was the other bloke's fault when you're dead".

More than a few mates of mine got held up in that this morning on the way to Uni, the A66 leading into Boro is getting road resurfaced so I think increased traffic flow on the A19 as people tried to avoid the roadworks, paves the way for increased chances of collisions I reckon.

From the radio it seems a Lorry driver has been arrested in conjunction with the incident.

That's what it says in the link too, but that alone means little about culpability.
