Daelim Roadwin (lose or draw)?

Looking at Learner Legals on behalf of a workmate.

He's a big lad, the Japanese-branded commuters are a bit small for him and Varaderos are out of his price range (or more specifically out of his wife's mid-life-crisis tolerance range). We've been looking at Hyosungs, but haven't managed to bag one yet.

There's a nekkid Daelim Roadwin just come up locally, 2005, 13,400 miles (which I take as a good sign), looks in decent condition. WeMoto carry basic consumables, insurance is no problem, so we're looking for reasons not to bag it.

Not wishing to stir up the hornets nest but, they are not that bad..... (Ducks behind sandbags and dons tin helmet). It depends VERY much on price, condition, number of previous owners, maintenance, how good your mate is at basic servicing and spannering. Dont dismiss them out of hand, my experiences have been pretty positive.

Is he horizontally or vertically grandiose?


I am 6ft and 17st, I fit onto a CB250, a Van Van 125, an SR125 and a GS500 , in each instance it was cosy but tolerable. If he is a lanky streak or really heavy then perhaps not but has he tried sitting on/riding one of the jap commuters that have been dismissed?


People have rather high (retarded )expectations when selling the varadero but other offroad style bikes might be within budget, all are pretty tall too. What is his budget, I'm guessing not a lot if he is considering used EDIT: KOREAN commuters?


As for the Daelim, no experience of it. Have you asked on a chinese bike forum, might get a better reception?

My apologies, I stand corrected. Was told they were made in china by the owner of one.
Either way, the Daelim scooter I had the misfortune of working on last year was screwed at less than 2 years old.

Underneath the plastics the steel frame was rotton and required serious stripping and repair.
The exhaust had returned back to mother nature and both fork seals were shot.
1 owner, 4000 miles.
Would I buy one? Not even as a field bike.

Thanks, that's helpful.

I reckon he's better holding out for a Hyosung, stretching to a Verydearo or scrunching up on a YBR/CBF/CG, but he's not been getting in quick enough when a good one comes up.

The Daelim is just up the road, so there's more of a chance of him actually going to look at it.

I'd be giving it a thorough going over, paying particular attention to the hidden bits behind the shiny stuff, so pointers about specific things that Daelim might skimp on are great.

Interesting. I thought they were Chinese too. The Roadwin 125 doesn't look too bad actually. Just a shame the website reads like the importer has put the Korean brochure into Google translate.
