Yes, some absolute fucking scum bag decided to steal the seat (and post) off my bike the other day. As well as the £1.50 water bottle from Wilkinsons.

I can replace the bottle quite easily as you'd expect, but i'm not too clued up with seats and posts.

It looks as though I need a post that's 2.5cm in diameter. Is this the most common?

I still have the quick release clamp.

I've been looking on ebay. There are plenty of posts, but that's all they are - a post.

I'm assuming when I buy a new seat that it'll come with a clamp thing under it to attach it to the post? Do I need to know anything about these clamps or are they all the same?

Cheers

Quite a few different size seat posts? What bike is it? I have a spare seat and post you can have for the price of postage if it fits?

I'm not wanting a really long post really, just normal or short. But it needs to be 2.5cm wide.

No idea what the bike is. I bought it off Gumtree last summer. The frame has been sanded down (was probably stolen!) and apparently it's some sort of rare frame. Sorry I can't be much more help.

Just dug it out the garage, it's a 31.8mm. Sorry dude.

Your welcome to the seat though, that will fit on pretty much all posts.

I'm interested in the seat yeah. I'm guessing it's just a plain black one?

That would do the job nicely.

Let me know how much you'd like for it and the posting.

I have a suitable post going spare. If you can get your arse down to WF1 or S71 then you can have it FOC.

Cheers.

Like i mentioned above, i have no idea what the bike is. Theres no stickers or model number or anything like that as the frame is all chrome (from being sanded down).

You could try getting a picture - or get the vernier callipers out to measure it (cheap at Aldi if you don't have some - every man should have some Razz)

i imagine you are now sorted but if you arent let me know and i will put together a seat and 25mm post for you and stick it in the post.

this is the exact reason nothing on my bike is quick release unless im going for a long ride when i swap to quick release wheel spindles to make tube changes quicker

Yeah I got rid of the quick release on the front wheel of my MTB because of that exact reason.

Thumbs Up

What you need is a bit of old bycycle chain and a bit of old inner tube.

Split a length off the chain that's long enough to loop through the rails under the saddle and through the frame at the back of the seat post.

Thread it through a bit of inner-tube then join the chain in a loop, essentially joining the saddle to the frame. Fix the ends of the inner tube with a cable tie so they don't pull back and damage the paint.

Cycle theives MIGHT carry a spanner. They do not carry a chain tool.

I've done this on my bike because I have an original 1960's Brookes racer saddle and they are fucking expensive.

Funny that, I assumed bicycle thieves typically carried bolt croppers Laughing .

I'd hazard a guess at the OP's seat post being held on with a quick release clamp that required nothing. If I was concerned about my seat being stolen I'd swap the bolts with torx or security torx headed bolts, i'd stake my hat on a thief being more likely to have bolt croppers capable of knocking through a bit of bicycle chain than a set of torx keys.
