Auction of bikes on saturday, viewing on Thurs and Fri ...
Bikes for sale listing at above website

Three George White clothing stores will open this weekend under a new name of Mega Motorcycle Store, after a deal was agreed between administrators and a private investor.
Three clothing branches of George White, in Swindon, Bolton and Slough, will reopen under the Mega Motorcycle Store brand on Saturday 10 March and will be managed by former George White staff members.
All of the remaining George White stock that was held by administrators has been bought by Mega Motorcycle Store, with the new retailer aiming to continue “the clothing and accessory bargains for which the Swindon-based dealer was renowned”.
At present, there are no plans to sell new motorcycles although there will be an auction of more than 100 motorcycles that were held by George White before the retailer went under at the Swindon store on the opening day. Models can be viewed online or on viewing days on Thursday 8 March and Friday 9 March.
Former George White director, Steve Gannicott was reported by Visor Down as saying: “It was truly heartbreaking to see George White go under - not just for me but for all the lads and lasses who worked so hard to try and pull things round when trading conditions got so tough. It was the clothing and accessory bargains that really kept the company going when it could no longer offer the generous discounts on new bikes that manufacturers previously allowed.
“This new venture is going to concentrate solely on those clothing and accessory bargains that Britain’s bikers have become accustomed to. It’s really difficult to build a business plan around new bike sales at the moment because there’s so little confidence out there in the market. For now, we’ll concentrate on what we know works best for both the business and, of course, the customers.”
The online store and the motorcycle auction lot is visible on www.megamotorcyclestore.co.uk

They have a Job shifting that lot at those prices, it isn't cheap cheap. if they knocked another 20-30% off it would be gone in days.

They're not trying to offload all the clothing and gear at fire sale prices, that's an ongoing business. They only need to be competitive with it.

It's the bikes that they're trying to get rid of. Bloody bikes, eh, who wants those?

Well, it's an auction, so you might get a bargain, you might not. It depends on whether they put reserves on them, or whether they're determined to get shot of them all in one day.

I can't say I'm not intrigued by the prospect...

There are a good few bikes I wouldn't mind bidding on if I wasn't saving for a house deposit...

Oh what I would do for a CB1300...

Glad to hear that 'they' will be reopening in Slough, but not the most imaginative name is it!?

I'm deffo going to the auction especially for the new CBR600RR and GSXR6 with 3500 miles, although I fear that because of the sheer amount of interest at the auction and amount of people there will not be the 'BARGAINS' expected.. Crying or Very sad

Just be cautious if you are going to buy one of the new bikes as I dont think they will have had their PDI. You will need to get this done at an official dealer to get your manufacturers warranty so add this on to the cost you pay plus the road fund licence.

Maybe. There'll be a lot of gawpers, but how many serious bidders? I've scored a couple of decent cars at auctions, you just need to stick to your limit and be prepared to go home empty handed, it's not rocket surgery.

"Just"?

J&S bought the Frank Thomas brand over a year ago.

Still, I'm sure you've got a mate who knows a guy who heard it from a bloke.

Nnrf so tempting to go visit the auction. But that would be like dangling water out of reach of a dehydrating man.

*goes to check behind the couch for a wad of cash*

Well there's a few 125s there, and I badly need one at the moment, but can I face a 200 mile round trip on my scooter? If I knew what the reserves were maybe.

Probably not worth it for me then. By the time I've forked out for a day in Swindon, petrol, the train fare back there to collect a bike and petrol to get it home I'd have been better off walking to my local Yamaha reseller. Crying or Very sad

I've been there today, every bike has a reserve . GSXR 6 is £5300 both R6's £5100 Etc.

The new bikes don't seem to have reserves listed but they will go far silly money anyway. Shame because the cbr600 is nice. Laughing

Why the f*ck won't they put the reserves on line. Not sure whether it's worth it.

And can get R6's on ebay with the same milage & year for £6000. If you get one for £5100, ok. More than £5500 is it worth it Thinking

Because they want people to spend money on something else if they don't get a bike...you've gone all that way so you'll buy something else.....usually works!
